candidates and their donors at the VPAP
This seems like an interesting time to revisit the Virginia Public Access Project, a non-profit group the makes it easy to access the public records of who has donated how much to a candidate for office.
VPAP doesn’t have listings for school board candidates. 7th District Council Representative Delores L. McQuinn has a page ($970 on hand), as does her challenger Clarence Kenney ($0 on hand), and mayoral candidates Robert Grey, Bill Pantele, Dwight Jones and Lawrence Williams.
Stupid question: Do huge republican corporate guys expect something in return when they donate a big chunk of dough to a small town mayoral candidate?

And if Pantele has such big ties to developers, how come Jennie Dotts is on his donor list? Isn’t she into historic preservation?
Dwight Jones’ donors are pretty much what I expected.

Pantele has more individual donors than any other candidate and the vast majority are local. Most of Pantele’s support is from developers and real estate people. Grey collected $130K from eleven people. He is the candidate of the elite few. Jones’s support comes from the political machine. Look how much support for Jones and Grey comes from out of State. Why?
Hmm, wonder what Al Sharpton expects to gain from his donation to Dwight Jones? I haven’t a clue why the UAW has an interest in Jones being Richmond’s next mayor. I guess Dwight Snead expects his choke hold on city contracts to continue in exhange for his donations.
I would add that development and historic preservation are not always at odds with one another. You can be pro-development and still be preservation minded.
This is not an endorsement of Pantele, but I have known him to be preservation friendly.
Which mayoral candidate will best support the efforts of small local business owners and entrepreneurs?

Before he left the race, Goldman suggested that both Pantele and Grey are committed to bailing out the VPAF/downtown arts center, no matter what the cost to the rest of the city.

Who is R3 Development LLC? Aren’t they connected to the Echo Harbor project? Here is a list of their donations: $2,000 Jones for Mayor of Richmond,

Now I remember Goldman was adamantly against this project.

Politicians are like sharks. Once they find out you’ll bleed… it’s a feeding frenzy.

Echo Harbor is my touchpoint issue. If you support it, I will not vote for you.
Come on, there’s plenty of others that feel like me in Church Hill. Let these people know.
Once a politician finds out that you give money to politicians they will hound you until you give to them.
I feel for the Echo Harbor guys. They bought a property that is zoned to allow a 150′ building by right. (M-2 zoning – 3 feet vertical for every 1 foot horizontal from the centerline of the street) So they could build their high rise if it was an office building, They just can’t build anything residential – which is what they want do. Oops.
I think that if the city really want to protect the views then the city is going to have to buy it. Eventually the office building market will come back and somebody will build a tall building on that lot.
And, sometimes, unscrupulous developers have been known to chum the waters in order to get the sharks [and other fish] to eat the bait.
