THe 49th annual convention of the Virginia State Baptist Ushers Union it taking place this weekend, with many activities scheduled for the Good Shepherd Baptist Church at 1127 North 28th Street. The union was founded in the late 1950s and has 6 affiliated unions. [via]

A press release issued this morning by the Richmond Police Department and the City Attorney’s Office seeks “to advise residents not to believe any letters they may receive that offer to buy their homes to save them from demolition.”

Word from the code enforcement folks is that the corner store at 24th and Fairmount, vacant since burning almost 18 months ago, will likely have a demolition permit in place by the end of the month.
