I really have to agree with Eric on the signs staying up after the election. In the same light, Christmas decorations should be taken down within an acceptable amount of time after the holiday. After a while, they begin to look trashy so whether it's laziness or not, leaving them up gives the appearance of laziness...

eric, do you feel the same way about Christmas decorations? i know lots of folks who keep em up year round...red bows, lights, whatever. and in these cases, it's simply an expression of personal taste, not laziness. one man's tackiness is another person's high art- yard-decoration.

yup, signs on pubic property can always go, and you can personally (legally) do away with as many of those as you like.

but for my neighbors (and myself) who are still basking in the joy of electing Obama for president, i can understand the delight of keeping a yard sign in place. especially since the inauguration is a couple weeks away and black history month will be here before we know it.

some folks candidates didn't win, and they, too, have a right to express their political views by keeping their sign up as long as they like. afterall, it's private property.

but really eric, if i still had a yard sign, i'd put it in the front yard just to irk you.

why? b/c you've crossed into the realm of aesthetic policing. many of us already have old & historic district regulations to take care of the important stuff. why not just let the little stuff like yard signs (and christmas decorations) go? peace be with you.

They look tacky left up months after an election and to some just a sign of pure laziness or just plain trashy. Are you going to simply let them weather and rot away as an eyesore? I believe the impact of a political statement has passed and so has the election. If you want to keep it as a souvenir that is fine but please take them off your lawns and put them in your attic or basement.

A recent message from Julia Stokes of the Clean City Commission:
<blockquote>
During this campaign season, we are starting to see more and more campaign signs being put up in and around Church Hill. These are to be displayed on private property only. If you see signs in tree wells, attached to telephone polls or on sidewalks, then you are allowed to remove them if they become a concern.
