zoning meeting tonight @ EDI

There will be a public meeting to discuss the possible rezoning of properties within the Church Hill and Union Hill areas, and a very small piece of Fairmount. The meeting will be from 6-8PM tonight at EDI on 25th Street. For more info, contact Tarisa Griffith at tarisa.griffith@richmondgov.com or (804)646-6308.

He is a map of the current and proposed zoning.

Anyone have ideas on what this rezoning entails (what’s being proposed, what impact it would likely have, etc.?)

One of the items they brought up last time was no new resturants on 25 St. since there are parking restrictions. Can you believe it!!!!!!!!!!

Would that happen in the Fan? Or has it?

I see that the old 4-corner Charlie buildings at 27th and Marshall along with Pritchard Brothers are up for ‘UB’ (Urban Business) but understand that doesn’t have a large impact with what is there now. But for 25th Street…

Parking is another issue depending if a business is eat in or take out and dictated by the building square footage vs. how many spaces should be available and what can be grandfathered in which I think is only 1 extra space?

From what I gather, Steven Bergin at DGS is apparently working on a plan for Restricted Parking in Church Hill like in the Fan district so that will limit parking for non locals from business hours and past up to 9PM and sure any new businesses would suffer if they expect heavy traffic if they are open 9-5 or 7-9.

So we’re talking about MORE parking restrictions? I was thinking / hoping that we were moving in the direction of LESS red tape and the possibility of cool urban bars and restaurants a la Fan. What the hooey?

Shouldn’t current land use and proposed
zoning go hand in hand. If the Master Plan shows a property to be slated for a particular use in the future why not follow the Plan and zone accordingly.Parking is always an issue, however The Fan properties have appreciated in value because of a common sense approach to the parking. It’s worth it to be able to live in a walkable neighborhood
