Church Hill Dog Park softly opens

The Church Hill Dog Park is officially open! The park opened quietly today, and the organizers plan on having a “doggie day” in late July or early August to really announce that the park is open.

We’d like help supplying water until the city can get the spigots working (and during the winter months, too, as the city will turn the water off). There are 3 critter coolers down there, 2 in the large dog park, 1 in the small area, and they can hold 6.5 gallons at a time. You have to directly poor water into the bowls on the side.

Hurray! Many thanks to all of the folks who organized and labored on the new dog park.

I’ve been three times in the past week and while there’s been a few dogs (anywhere from 1-6 at a time), I was hoping more people would utilize this WONDERFUL facility….

went there tonight with my 2 dogs…although it was hot they had fun! there were like 7 dogs. it is a great place and we will return as much as possible! everyone was friendly and the dogs got along well.

Andrew, they will once word gets out its open and ready for use. Just give it time and before you know it the park will be overrun with dogs, : ).

I know me and my friends tend to leave our houses around 5:45 or 6 and get down there by 6:30 or so. I noticed more people are around during that time frame.

Went to the dog park today, noticed that someone (probably kids) were in there breaking beer bottles in the small dog area. Glass everywhere!

Intentionally spreading glass shards in the new dog park?! Absolutely disgraceful!! I wish I never read that.

That is pretty shitty. People have put a lot of hard work into the new park (it looks wonderful by the way) and then we have folks like this who intentionally damage the area. Hopefully no dogs will be injured…that would be horrible!

We walked through the area yesterday and didn’t notice anything but we will definitely keep at eye out while there this afternoon (yes, we use it almost every evening, :).

I can’t seem to find the address to this park – I’m new to the area.

It is on the bottom section of Chimborazo park. Just follow broad street east till it hooks a dog leg and heads down the hill (changing its name to Government road). You will see a road that is blocked to cars by a yellow chain. The dog park is down that road.

The access road now has a Citizen Gate which is to be opened and closed by us, the citizens. However, if we are to keep this handy way of accessing the park, we need to actually use it properly.

That said, when you are the last one out, please close the gate behind you. We want to give the public that means the lower area harm the illusion of being a locked gate, something an open gate does not do.
