drug bust on 24th Street

Police arrested several drug dealers this afternoon in the 1200 block of 24th Street, a block described by neighbors as a drug hot spot for “quite some time”.

now if they could only bust the yellow house on the corner of Jessamine and Veneable! Some seedy crap been going down there for a long time…

That area has been a serious problem for sometime. Unfortunately, the dealers that were not picked up in the raid are working out of two houses on the block now and just walking up and down. We truly appreciate all that the police are doing to deal with this problem. They’ve been great at responding to calls recently and it is helping.

The city gave the known drug dealer(s) a permit to have a block party at the yellow house on the corner of Jessamine and Venable. This gave them permission to do their seedy crap legally. (I notice they have put up a privacy fence.) What can we expect now?????????????

I thought this was a secure wesite, however judging from the comment on 7/31/08 it is not. Everyone whom attended the meeting please be sure to utilize the secure website/text information that was giving during the meeting. You will also find that on 8/4/08 between the hours of 10pm-11pm I have photos of a young black female, age range 20-30yrs. distributing in the back yard of the yellow house on Jessamine and Venable. I took the initiative to utilize the text system that Richmond Police gave out and it worked, They arrived in the area within 15min, but the woman believed to live there was already back in the home. This is one step closer to having our neighborhood back.

    This is pretty public, actually.

Brenda, you go girl! You’re work is what’s making “Night Out Against Crime” a reality in our neighborhood.

This is a family house,we come down here to see our family and friends if you have a problem with any one in this house you need to address us before you go and slander our names and the house most of my family grew up in,this house has been in my family since 1919,this is not to disrespect any one but we would like the same respect back. There is no drug selling going on down here and we would appreciate if who ever is responsible for these emails we hope they stop.

    Brenda:

Seeing as how this is a very public website I would advise you not to discuss what specific actions you may be taking against drug dealers. Especially using your actual name. (Assuming that is your name…)

Just a safety issue, that “young black female” or her friends may get a bit upset…

  11. posted by RANAI at August 7, 2008 1:38 pm :

FUNNY HOW PEOPLE THAT DON’T UNSTAND FAMILY CULTURE AND GATHERINGS, ASSUME THE WORST. ASSUMING CAN DESTROY LIVES, LETS GET FACTS, BEFORE PASSING JUDGEMENT.

  12. posted by mike at August 7, 2008 1:53 pm :

Funnier still, if my neighbors called the police on me because they thought I was dealing drugs I wouldn’t get upset in the least bit. Seeing as how I don’t deal drugs and that shows they care about the neighborhood…

  13. posted by J at August 7, 2008 2:20 pm :

Although I don’t know much about what Brenda is addressing, I do know about the above bust. There was no assuming who was doing what. Prostistutes hung out and would loudly call down cars and offer their goods. When the groups that gathered there got drunk enough, they would loudly talk about what they had sold (ie. drugs) and what they were going to buy (ie. booze and more drugs). There was no guessing. You could see the bags of cocaine and heroin and other powders.

Thanks Mike and Union Hill RVA. I have more details as to how much futher I have taken my concerns on the above issues.(posted on a more secure website) I am proud to update those who do live in this neighborhood that I do beleive we are finally being heard. I attended a couple of meetings this week with some really concerned people in the law enforcement field whom convinced me that we will have this neighborhood back.
Thanks to all 56 people whom came out to support our neighborhood. I beleive our strong presence in those meetings are really making a difference.

BRENDA I APPLAUD YOU FOR WHAT YOU ARE DOING. WE NEED TO KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE FROM THE DRUG DEALERS. IF I SAW SOMETHING SUSPICIOUS I TOO WOULD CALL THE POLICE ON THEM.DONT LET ANYONE THREATEN YOU. THEY ARE NOTHING BUT COWARDS. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD. IT’S BECAUSE YOU CARE, THATS WHY YOU ARE DOING WHAT U ARE DOING. WE NEED TO TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS NEIGHBORHOOD AND IT STARTS WITH DEDICATED PEOPLE LIKE YOU BRENDA.

PROUND OF YOU BRENDA. I WILL JOIN YOU TOO IN REPORTING ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS.

I LEFT THIS ALONE JUST TO INVERSTIGATE AND BE POSITIVE THAT I DID NOT DESTROY A ENTIRE HOME JUST BECAUSE OF SOME DRUG DEALERS HANGING AROUND. I HAVE FOUND OUT THERE IS A OLDER MAN AND LADY WHOM VISITS THE HOME.

I OBSERVED THE COPS CATCH ONE OF THE DEALERS ON ANOTHER CORNER. I THOUGHT THEY ARRESTED THE YOUNG LADY WHO LIVES THERE, BUT LATELY IVE OBSERVED HER AND A GENTLEMAN WHOM IS CONSTANTLY FROM ONE CORNER TO THE OTHER MAKING A TRANSACTION OUT OF A GREEN CAR PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE HOME. I OBSERVED ANOTHER GENTLEMAN TALL WITH LOTS OF JEWELRY ALSO ENGAGING IN THIS ACTIVITY, UNDERSTAND THIS GUY IS DEFINITLY THE RING LEADER AND COULD POSSIBLY RUN A PROSTITUTION RING JUDGING FROM THE TRAFFIC OF YOUNG LADIES THAT SHOW UP. I DID REPORT EVERYTHING I OBSERVED AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE THEY ARE AHEAD OF ME.

I FOUND OUT THAT ALL OF MY YELLING AT THE POLICE DEPT HAS PAID OFF. I ALSO FOUND OUT THRU RESOURCES THAT THIS WILL NOT BE THE FIRST TIME FOR THIS HOME. TO MY SURPRISE OTHERS, THAT I WILL NOT DISCLOSE KNOW THE ENTIRE FAMILY OPERATION. THIS WILL BE SUCH A BREAK FOR THE POLICE DEPT.

THANKS EVERYONE WHOM CONTINUES TO SUPPORT ME AND THE CAUSE. REMEMBER TO CONTINUE TO REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR, THEY PREFERE IF WE CONTACT THEM WHILE THE SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR IS GOING ON.

PATSY,THANKS FOR BEING CONCERNED,HOWEVER I HAVE LOST 2 VERY DEAR FAMILY MEMBERS TO THIS DRUG WAR.

I really appreciate your efforts to get this crap out of our neighborhood. Thank-you thank-you thank-you for having the courage and the conviction to stand up to the dirt bags that live in that house and are dealing the shit that destroys our community.

To RANAI and Kennet L. Brown Sr.:

BUSTED!!!!! So much for “family gatherings and culture.” Who do you think you are kidding? You’ve gotten away with this long enough. The party’s over!

Brenda, you are my hero! You are so inspiring.

Down on the other end of 24th Street (at Jefferson Ave), we too, have our own issues with drug dealers/users, drunks and the occasional hooker or two.

Since 2002, I’ve found the police to be responsive and quite effective at trying to keep a lid on the activity. However, there is still lots of bad stuff going on (especially in the vacant lot behind the corner store,) and near the corner of 24th & M.

But it’s nothing that a few more sharp eyes and concerned citizens can’t overcome.

Folks just need to hear it from you, that you can have a positive impact if you just call 646-5100 with a description when stuff is happening.

Thanks, Brenda, for sharing your success with all of us.

I know that when we help catch these guys, that the law enforcement can not keep them forever, but why are they not made to enter a reform program. People my arguement with the lawenforecement now is: Why is the house on Jessamine & Venable still functioning? Why is the gentleman that was arrested a couple of months ago back and running business stronger than ever? This has gotten worse, they run back and forth in that back yard all day and night. I notice they have changed their pattern, now their customers are required to knock at the window directed towards the side or the house and they are instructed to come into the house or to meet behind the privacy fence. The guy driving the white car is always taking a crowd of people back there as they pull up in their cars. The girlfriend or wife of the gentleman driving the white car with all of the art work on her body does not care she just sells her drugs right their on the side of the house as if she has a Va.License to sell drugs. (I wonder if she knows that if she is caught she will not be able to be in their kids life.)

People I have decided to become lawenforcement I WILL MAKE THIS A SAFE PLACE FOR MY FAMILY. WATCH OUT HOUSE ON JESSAMINE & VENABLE.

The house on the corner of Venable and Jessamine has a lot of stuff going on. The grandmother is a alcholic along with one of the sons. The son that was just released is on drugs really bad. The other guy you reference as having all the jewelry is the one with all of the leadership. The entire house does what he says. The girl with all the tatoos is not his wife she is one of his many girlfriends. He actually pays women to entertain him, he will pay for pedicures and clothes for less fortunate younger women. He and his brother whom just was released pay the women on drugs to have shows for them and their friends in exchange for drugs. I know this because though I am not on drugs the two brothers have asked me to participate. I know this family thru word on the streets. The guy in the white car will not leave me alone and that is why the article Brenda posted on 10/06 really concerned me. I have documented the number and plan on utilizing it every time I see any abnormal behavior over there. In short Brenda, you have more people in your corner than you know.

    Brenda,
What do you mean that you are law enforcement? Does this mean you have taken a job with RPD or does it mean you intend to take the law into your own hands? I have supported your efforts to report and deter crime on your block, but to take the law in your own hands is dangerous! No one should do this and you will lose the support of RPD if you do, as well as your life or the safety of your family. In fact, it might make the situation worse.
