But if there was no major remodeling especially in the basement area then it will basically be the same setup as Acapella. My last experiences there was not good as the waiter was also tending bar and basically ignored me and my guests there for dinner while they socialized at the bar. And at that time the smoke was so thick you could ride on top of it!

Well...having spent far more time in the Acappella pub than I probably should have, I can say I never had poor service. Sure, food service could slow down when the place was jammed, but that happens everywhere. I suspect you were either there on an unusually bad night, or someone other than Sorv, Crystal, James, etc was working. And I'm not only a nonsmoker, I hate smoky places with a passion, yet I never really had a problem there. I'd suggest actually giving the new place a try before damning it.

Then again, I'm one of those drunks who tended to have 4 or 5 drinks before walking home, so my judgment is obviously suspect.

classless loser that i am, i just had lunch there today. ate mussels, drank a coke (good god!) and smoked a cigarette. the food, atmosphere, service and decor were great. given a guided tour by nick (ex of millie's) and shown all the improvements these hard working people have made.
eric, you are hereby commanded to utter not one more word until you can truthfully say you have visited the establishment. anything else is pure unadulterated guff.

LC... this is very true and I even corrected myself in the past on this.

Simple question. Have you gone inside and dined at Patrick Henry's Pub & Grill?
If yes, then commentary about the meal, the service, the atmosphere, etc. are probably worth sharing. If no, then there is absolutely no value to your opinion. How can you tell the temperature of the water without putting your toes in the water?

"When are old fashioned and respected moral values nonsense?"

see the thing is eric, that you have no respect for OTHER people's values or opinions. if you did you wouldn't have been trying to refute them this entire thread. its the constant calling everyone else "drunks" and "morally loose" that umm... REALLY IS OFFENSIVE. thats why everyone is having such a blast 'attacking you.' and i hate to break it to you, but just because something is 'old fashioned' doesn't make it better.

one thing i will say though, is that this thread has really made me want to get to the pub ASAP. it also makes me really thirsty.

and "a little more class" in your more recent post? if i could afford to eat at those restaurants every day i certainly would, but i can't, so i guess that makes me classless. and i think there are a lot of other indivuduals in church hill in the same financial boat as me. oh well!

I guess my question would be why can't we in Church Hill have a restaurant along the lines of a Sensi, or Juleps, or even a Bistro Twenty Seven? They all serve alcohol but also cater to everyone and a little more class. If you want Church Hill to grow you need to think outside the box and be more diverse and not have the same old-same old with each new opening.

"When are old fashioned and respected moral values nonsense? "

When the person touting them acts like a prohibitionist circa 1919. Having a drink or 10 on a friday doesn't make you evil, a drunk, or anything else. What moral value...specifically, don't pontificate or get off on some silly ass tangent... says one can't drink?

Has this thread turned into an "attack and taunt Eric"? He has a right to his opinions whether we like it or not. Let's move on. Let's all check out the Restaurant for ourselves, then decide if we like or don't like it.

When are old fashioned and respected moral values nonsense?

Did you also miss my post about having diversity in the neighborhood so those who don't wish to drink can also have a place to go too without being so self centered and only one way?

If people go to the restaurant, and have time to answer my posts, then they can critique a simple menu - right? Logical and yet unusual that no one wants to? some people would be all over the chance to do just that especially the owner when trying to promote his place!

Eric is your favorite movie Footloose...all those pesky kids dancing and singing?

You talk of constructive comments... where exactly have you offered anything constructive...i'll wait...hmmmm just bitching.

You sit there and insult people and when they come back at you, you climb up on your cross and scream that you are being victimized.

I am glad you desise this place so much. I have someplace to go and have a 100% chance on not running into you.

You are still asking about the menu... get off your lazy butt and go over there and check it out.

" I am tired of being on the soap box surrounded by people who have little consideration for others" Oh poor baby... have you ever thought few people care about what you are saying? Especially in the ranting nonsensical manner in which you try to position your argument.

"it is up the management to run an establishment inviting to “everyone” and not just a certain niche" WRONG!!!... you must have never been in business before. You don't cater to everyone that's impossible. You cater to your client base. This place is most likely going to do a gangbuster of business where as any of your ridiculous ideas would fail miserably.

All I ask is for Church Hill to be more open to new ideas and variety instead of falling into a rut with carbon copy establishments. And that people get along with one another rather than run all over them for their own benefit.

Enough said... life is too short to keep being upset over something that no matter who it is said to, how it is said, nor how many times, some people just don't want to listen.

"EVERYONE should care about the world and its surroundings and the people who live on it! If you don’t then you are one of the core reasons why the world is in the rotten state it is in today."

Altruism and being able to enjoy a drink or two, or maybe even 3-4 in a place that isn't over-run by knuckleheads (i.e. Shockoe Bottom) are not mutually exclusive.

my point is that all this discussion amongst ourselves is meaningless. the decision to allow people have two simultaneous drinks at noon is not our decision, but that of the Hill Cafe or of Patrick Henry, or any establishment. perhaps your discussion should be directed to the owners of the place.

Morality police... well, sorta but on the other hand everyone should have them and not live just for the moment.

Son? I hope you are about 80 years old as I an goping on 51 years old!

And to clarify the public gather issues... of course it is up the management to run an establishment inviting to "everyone" and not just a certain niche. At the same time not every new establishment should cater to a certain same niche of people but you need variety in the neighborhood.

Now... why hasn't anyone chimed in on that Ice Cream Parlor not being open yet issue? Yes, I am changing the subject. No use beating a dead horse and I am tired of being on the soap box surrounded by people who have little consideration for others.

I propose a meeting of peace, Mr Nut-tuckler! Chili & daiquiri's at Velvet!
Make sure you brink plenty of singles.
They make specialty burgers. Try the Stuffedbuttler! (It has an extra slice of cheese!-but the pickle is very limp.)

To Mr. Eric S. Huffstutler -

I live very close to the new Patrick Henry establishment and I must ask you - have you been inside to see their renovations? Their menu? To meet their staff? To have a meal? I have. And I was very happy with the whole experience. You seem to have perched yourself on a very high horse, while pronouncing judgment on anyone who would dare to be in support of this NEW BUSINESS in our neighborhood. So, I understand that since I openly support them that makes me an 'irresponsible and childish drunk'? FYI - the new chef who is heading up the kitchen at Patrick Henry's is an alum from Millie's. So, that should tell you all you need to know (If you are as smart as you think you are). Would you rather this building stayed shuttered? Or maybe dilapidated, rundown and ignore? It is a BUSINESS - a pub and restaurant that will eventually serve alcohol as well. Those of us who are happy about this new place (only the third restaurant in the neighborhood) have no less values or ethics than you do, and are not worse citizens or neighbors. I support Church Hill, am a very good neighbor, and a good citizen. A word of caution - don't pump yourself up with so much moral pomposity until you've walked through the door to see if you're assumptions are correct. I have been there. And you're wrong.

Thanks g... but restaurants are public places or public gathering places and ran with that in mind. When it comes to "property" issues, that is different.

hillkid... boy do know about the music and forget sitting at the window tables. You can't even hear the person sitting in front of you talking. It is that sort of pub/restaurant mix that doesn't work very well as they are too close in proximity and people who come to relax and eat are overwhelmed by loud people at the bar.

It is that sort of pub/restaurant mix that doesn’t work very well as they are too close in proximity and people who come to relax and eat are overwhelmed by loud people at the bar.

generalities, banalities.
my interest in combating self appointed meddling morality police is exactly that.
if any of it had any cohesion i would have some sympathy but you, son, are all over the place.

Well, you can't say I don't stand up for what I believe in! May not be what I want to be remembered for by many - oh well, I am not out to win any congeniality contests. Just want to be accepted for who I am and what I stand up for.

I am not a bad person… honestly. Maybe my ideals are a bit dated but at the same time society as a whole has gotten too undisciplined and uncaring for their fellow man. That is disheartening.

WE go into the the Hill Cafe late at night sometimes, but not as much as we used to.

Around 10:00 pm the music gets turned up so loud that I can't have a conversation with anyone and the place gets pretty raucous.

I guess that's how they make their money, but I know that the surrounding neighbors are trying to get the ABC license changed so that the place closes earlier. Apparently they feel that the place has gotten out of hand, but might be hard getting the license changed. And, I bet that late night crowd keeps the place open.

key point here is that a restaurant is NOT public space. there is a park a couple blocks away, now that is PUBLIC space. sorry, just wanted to point that out.

larsson... invasion of one's space in public is a real thing. Take smoking for instance. Just like there are laws against pubically verbally abusing people or playing music too loud especially offensive music (noise pollution), etc... I am not sure how often they are enforced? I know in my area if people are too loud beyond the city enforced "quiet hour", I am calling the cops!

Obviously we have a few irresponsible and childish DRUNKS on this thread. Just ignore them and continue with the "business" at hand - the "restaurant" and its menu.

what in the name of pete is your problem eric?
"invading your space in public" (which makes no sense at all) "decency", "education" & "morals". the pomposity of it all astounds me. clearly you have an over inflated notion of your own righteousness and a very low opinion of all around you.
to boot you have the nerve to accuse those who may dissagree with you of being obsessed with "ME". you must be having a laugh.

Why do I care?!?! EVERYONE should care about the world and its surroundings and the people who live on it! If you don't then you are one of the core reasons why the world is in the rotten state it is in today.
