What’s the deal with 1604 N. 28th? From these photos, it doesn’t look to be in bad shape.

And in real life it looked ok, too — maybe even lived in. None of them look terrible.

There are much worse right around me that I love and keep expecting to see gone one day: 1104 North 20th Street and 1200 North 20th Street

1211 N 26th also looks like a nice house that can be fixed up pretty easily.

If the city can just go in and knock down a house, why can’t they just repossess it and sell it for cheap on the condition that it gets fixed up within a specified time period?

Also, could somebody sue the city for trespassing if they knocked down your house?

  5. posted by neighhbor at May 15, 2008 9:34 am [#]:

The city is knocking down your house because it is a public safety threat. Gives them the right to take it down.

But redevelopment isn’t a good enough reason for a taking according to your legislature.

  6. posted by Wowzer at May 15, 2008 10:55 am [#]:

I would suspect they couldn’t repossess it because it wouldn’t be theirs to repossess.

I also suspect it isn’t trespassing if it is for public safety. Are firefighters trespassing when they come in your house to put a fire out?

I am just guessing on both of these.

Next question: Are there guidlines for determining if something is a safety threat?

  8. posted by jc at May 15, 2008 1:44 pm [#]:

The owner of 3302 E Marshall has applied for a demolition permit (status pending).

I’ll have to get some pics of some of these. I have pics of others… but it says “maybe.” I remember a list liek this in a 1998 Free Press which had me taking pics of buildings on 24th and 23rd St in Fairmount which are still standing.

Cadeho… you mentioned a year or so ago about taking photos of every house in Church Hill? Is this for a web site? Book? Or personal use? I was curious about what you took of our house on 27th.

Any of the others mentioned above have been torn down? Looks like they have given a lot of notice for these demolitions. Took almost a year for the building on Marshall Street. Is the house at 1211 N 26th still standing?

  15. posted by Lee Alford at June 10, 2009 1:02 pm [#]:

It appears that 1201 N 26th has finally seen the wrecking ball. Sorry I wasn’t able to get a photo.
