Congrats John!
Will there be smoking after dinner hours at the bar? I no longer smoke but the people I work with do. And how late will you be serving food and until what hour will the bar be open?
Yay! Finally, a place for me to get a drink w/in 5 blocks of my house!
I’m speaking for John, I help out at the restaurant often, yes there will be smoking at the bar. Food will be served until about 9:00pm after that some snacks will be available. Currently we will be open Monday through Thursday 5:00pm until 11:00pm. Friday from 5:00pm until 12:00pm, on Saturday and Sunday brunch from 9:30 until 2:00pm and dinner from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and closing at 12:00pm. This will be the 1st (4/19) Saturday brunch we’ve had.
We travel a lot and recently moved here from California. My wife is from Europe and we were thrilled when smoking was outlawed in restaurants there. It boggles the mind that everyone in the room have to suffer for other peoples bad habits. When I go out to dinner with my family- why should we have to loose the ability to enjoy the taste of the food that we have ordered because others cannot control their addictions?Sidewalks are great places to socialize and give your selves lung disease. Please be considerate of others.Smoke does not stay in the bar.
I personally am ambivalent about the issue of smoking in restaurants, but from a business perspective, Que Pasa would probably do better do better if its smoke free. Just take a look at O’Tooles in Southside which after it went smoke free picked up so much new business that they had to expand.
here’s a little list of resturaunts that either suffered a loss or went out of bussiness.

If you visit places like Boston and DC, business is just fine after smoking bans. Clubs and concert venues aren’t losing business, and we haven’t found empty restaurants. There might be some isolated closings, but I doubt a smoking ban will disrupt a place that is of good quality and well-known.
Just as I doubt a smoking allowance will disrupt a place that is of good quality and well-known… Boils down to this, if you do not agree with a policy or practice of a business, do not patronize that business.
“isolated closings” affect real people. It means someone’s dream is ruined and real people lose their jobs. let the market dictate what business owners can do, not an intrusive big-brother government.
I agree with LC! (posting #8) Millies, Lulu’s and Captain Buzzy’s are non-smoking.(And they are great!) GO THERE! Here is the big question for Tom K:(posting #4) WHY ARE YOU TAKING YOUR FAMILY TO A BAR?!? I don’t walk into an ice cream parlor and demand access to a hooka?
i totally demand access to a hooka, no matter where i go…
;)
I loved the food when we went there last week! Forget the booze, the food stands by itself.
P.S. wish list: avocado, more avocado!
Hi, I lived in Church Hill for 20 years growing up, and now I live in smoke-free New York City. When you haven’t experienced smoke-free dining you don’t know how WONDERFUL it is. Whenever my VA friends visit they remark how great going to restaurants and bars is. At first some people here were upset about it, but as with everything people have gotten used to it…I hope VA will follow suit one day!
