another way to look around

Google’s street view is now live for Richmond. You can view any address in Richmond from street level.

I like this one:

wow… what a great resource! with all of the new construction in the city, how often would the images get updated?

I’ve noticed that for several neighborhoods (mine included), addresses are displayed anywhere from 1-3 blocks off from their actual location.

Well…considering that I have already been harrassed by a demented person once, this doesn’t make me particularly happy. All you have to do is know a name to get an address from 411.com and now you can look right in their living room windows! Yay!

My only consolation here is that they show the trees in front of my house in full leaf, which they aren’t at this time of year. It’s an old image (for me anyway, don’t know when Alicia and Daniel were captured in front of the coffee shop).

Wow, creepy. Makes you wonder who is making money off all that time spent taking photos, and why…

Google gets its photos by driving around in a car with special cameras mounted on top that take 360 degree pictures continuously as it drives along. In other words, relatively little time is spent taking pictures compared to how you or I might go about it by walking around with a regular camera.

I have mixed emotions, too. I think the photos are from last year based on the plantings etc. They also have our address wrong. The funny part- they’ve captured my husband cooking on the grill!

The photos are from October – November of last year. I know because I see my wrecked (now repaired) car.

I hope that they would keep archives if they should update. This is the best way to see the entire city at a period of time. Now, I have no reason to take pics of the city…
