got a new tree near your house?

tree watering bag

Does it have a bright green “gator” bag like this one attached to it? If so, please fill it once a week — and maybe even talk with your neighbors about helping you. (The fill-up slot is underneath the label at the top of the bag.) These bags are important to the survival of the small trees — over 50% of new trees fail because of lack of water, and rainfall is short this winter.

Thanks for helping make our neighborhood a greener place to live.

If you have questions, or need help with how to fill the bag, call Alli at 782-1170 or Marion at 644-1347.

    Bravo Marion!
It would be great, to add this, to all the blogs that are linked with this one.

Are all the new trees planted?

Not all the trees have been planted yet
But watch out this weekend you should see alot being planted on Broad st.
The contractor has untill the end of April to have all the trees planted.

    Hey Norm, I have a question…

One of the new trees in front of this house on the 2200 block of Q Street is *directly* under the the power line to the house. If the tree was 3 feet in either direction, it’d have a much better chance of not getting mangled in the future. Are the contractors told to be on the lookout for this kind of thing?

    John,

I think that the tree species that have been selected will not grow tall enough to encroach on the power lines. At least that’s my understanding.

Thanks, Norm. I have another question. I’d like to plant some trees in the median running alongside my place at M and 31st. Am I understanding correctly that I must fill out the Street Tree Planting Application from the Public Works site, but I can only plant trees from the Approved Planting List on that site. Correct? But I don’t need permission to plant regular shrubs or wildflowers in the medians, right?

  7. posted by Norm at March 1, 2008 4:41 am [#]:

The trees must be at approved sites.
They must be the approved species for the area.

The sites will also be inspected for compliance with the City’s Tree Ordinance.

Shrubs and wild flowers must be approved by the Public Works Grounds Division.

    My office number is 646-6785
Please feel free to call with your questions between 7am and 4pm
    Thank You
