   The tunnel ends, the church, Libby Hill/Jeff/Chimbo Parks, the 600blk of Chimbo Blvd, the cobblestone section of I-believe-it’s-State St behind the old Fulton School, Oakwood Cemetery, those awesome old staircases coming down from Fulton towards Governors St. Bellevue School. Whatever they’re calling the school at 37th & M these days, too. They’re both beautiful.

   The Church Hill Association, (for the Jamestown 2007), created a wonderful brochure that highlighted historic sites, our architecture and points of interest in the greater Church Hill area. Typically we give out free to the public at events like Irish and Italian Festivals to showcase our fantastic community. This brochure would be a good start and we have lots of them available. Additionally, the Valentine museum and tourist businesses do provide fee-based tours of the Hill area, when they get enough interest.
   As a FYI: I give (free) tours, to visitors/friends/civic groups in Church Hill area, mostly on weekends. You might have recently caught a few of my articles about CH community/James River Parks in the Church Hill Newsletters. If interested in free tours for folks just E-me at:mksm1@msn.com

   Even it’s little off the hill, I have always been fascinated by the Hebrew cementary off of Jennie Scher. Does anyone have any information about it?

   John Johnson forgot to mention that when he gives a tour of the hill, the attendees have a remarkable habit of eventually buying homes here.

   JJ, what IS that highly addictive substance you’re slipping into the apre-tour drinks? :)

   In Union Hill I would include Cedar Street Baptist Church, The Tricycle Garden, The site of the train tunnel collapse and the view from Jefferson Park.

   Church Hill sells itself despite the tickets, some crime, loss of restaurants, the ugly prospect of building degrading view sheds and also some of these (self-serving) personal rants on our very own web site.
   JJ can’t sell Church Hill – CH sells itself because it is all of US - and we are it. It’s the people, the paving stones, pets and the positive culture that coalesces in a thing called COMMUNITY. We the people of CH, UH, FH, Bottom, and Cbrazo …. ALL make this place great. It is not only the history, the trees and/or the mortar, rather it is what it represents and how we nurture and preserve it. The respect we show of the past and a positive eye to the future demonstrates daily in how we keep and share the wealth and beauty we are entrusted - with others. Thus every time you have friends come to CH, hold a backyard BBQ, or work a booth at one of the festivals, or attend a any civic/planning meeting, or say good morning to a neighbor and/or … just the act of pick up a piece of litter …. means you are buying in and selling our wonderful community. We are: Church Hill!!!

   JJ, you post is PRECISELY why the folks you introduce to our neighborhood want to move here. You excude the team effort that personifies our’hood by walking the talk and reaching out to all comers.

   Despite the occasional disagreements we express in this forum/CHPN, overall, we do find more to celbrate than denegrate.
