Jon Baliles has posted an editorial supporting West: Richmond city school board leadership: it is time for change
RTD 1/5/08 - Two vie to lead School Board
I started this campaign for the chair with little hope of victory- I just wanted to make the point that we can’t keep doing the same things and expect to succeed.
Now it seems though that there are many who agree, and were just waiting for someone to step up to lead. We have a chance of accomplishing something.
A number of people have asked me how they can help, and I usually don’t have a concrete answer. Now there is something you can do. Follow the links on the 1&2 responses above to email your support to other board members at Rivercityrapids and post your comments on the Times Dispatch article. This will let the board know that there is public support for change.
Thanks for your support.
I just posted to the Dispatch article. I would suggest anyone else who supports West to do the same.
From the RVA News site:
“Urge Betsy Carr and Chandra Smith and Joan Mimms to at least consider new leadership and that it is not just the purview of nine people to select the leaders of our schools. It is all of our responsibility.”
Here’s their emails:

P.S.
Any letters of support need to be sent by this Monday (1/7) before the School Board vote.
After reading “Schools Out” in Style Weekly (Jan.2, 2008), it is extremely important that we have new leadership on the school board. It is outrageous that some of our board members partnered with other leaders to play political games. There are too many important issues that concern the education of our children. I don’t agree with everything that Keith West has proposed. However, at least he has a vision and is focused on quality education. I support him for chair of the school board.
Chandra Smith’s email is listed incorrectly on the School Board’s web site (imagine that).
Correct one is: mailto:chandras@hotmail.com
