Rasin still mourns loss of father

Today’s RTD talks to Alicia Rasin, who for more or more than 20 years has worked to comfort families impacted by homicide, fire, suicide and domestic abuse. The founder of Citizens Against Crime who has helped so many others “finds herself wrapped in a shrug of sorrow she can’t shake” since the October 2006 death of her father, Malachi Rasin.

I read the article and wanted to tell you that my prayers are with you. As I am sure you are painfully aware grief is a process and it is different for each person. Losing your father and/or mother is very difficult as they are the only people that love us unconditonially and even though we grow up we still look to them for the comfort and acceptance only they can provide. My mom was my rock and though she died 16 years ago I still miss her. I don’t know if you remember me but we met at a service for parents whose children had been murdered in the city two years ago. My son, Justin Creech, was murdered on 1/05/04. The first year there were many days I couldn’t get out of bed and though I never doubted that Justin was in God’s care I wasn’t sure if I wanted to live(I still have days like that). It is so much harder to live than to die but for all those who love us and count on us we have to live. For those who have passed and gone on to heaven before us we have to honor them by finding happiness again and living life the way we know they would want us to. Justin lived his life loving others and trying to make others happy and it breaks his heart to see me cry. I love him so much and miss him more than words can express but I will be with him again just as you will be with your dad.
You have done so much good for our community and I know your dad was and contines to be so very proud of you. He raised a very special daughter so carry on your good works in his and God’s name. I think you will learn as I have, you are stronger than you ever could have imagined!
I would love to talk to you. I have many things I would like to discuss with you and would like to offer my help. When you are up to it would you please either email me at creech4512@comcast.net or call me at 247-4518. Also, do you know when the service for murdered children at city hall is this year?

    God Bless,
    Karen Creech
