real or imagined?

nbc12’s “Neighborhood Watch” ran a short piece about how elderly residents of the Fairmount House (@1501 N 21st Street) are concerned that security is being cut back at the facility, especially in light of recent crime in the immediate area.

Well now all the bad guys now there is no security guards there during the week.

Now THAT is some responsible journalism…

Loss of security guards angers residents (RTD 11/16))

The residents of Fairmount House, most of them elderly, want to know why their security guards were taken away, and they want them back.

About 80 people, including residents’ worried family members, met Tuesday at the 160-unit apartment building on North 21st Street in Richmond’s East End. They were looking for answers.

Fairmount House and another federally subsidized apartment house in the area — Church Hill House at 2400 Burton St. — are owned by Boston-based WinnResidential.

I am trying to figure out what the title of this post refers to. Real or imagined security guards? Real or imagined elderly residents? Real or imagined crime spike?

It felt like a manufactured story at first. The TV stations have been known to run OMG CRIME!!!!!! stories.

That’s true- I can’t even watch local news any more(CRIME! DEATH! DISEASE! Details at 11). But the armed robberies were real (happened to a friend of mine on 22nd)- and I don’t believe the number quoted in the story (2). From listening to folks in the neighborhood, I think more have been robbed and not reported it. It seems that they’ve arrested this particular robber who committed the 2 referenced in the story, however.
