Live Healthy Block Party

A few blocks of Cedar Street were blocked off today for the Live Healthy Block Party. Sponsored by the Vernon J. Harris Medical Center, the gathering offered free health screenings, healthy living demonstrations, kid’s activities, entertainment, food, arts and crafts, free giveaways, and free backpacks for kids.

Fatal fire on Chimborazo

An overnight apartment fire on the 600 block of Chimborazo Boulevard has claimed one life and left another person injured. Fire officials have not released the name of the person they pulled from the house but family members have told firefighters that they believe he stayed behind to try and put out the fire. [via]

Jefferson Park update

From the Friends of Jefferson Park: It appears that there has been some ongoing vandalism in Jefferson Park. Two nights in the last week, a couple of the heavy ornamental trash cans were ripped off their pads and thrown down the hill. In addition, there was some damage to a board on the horseshoe pit.
