rumors

(1) There might be some kind of moped shop coming to Marshall Street? (2) The Sisson/Armour and Company building at 17th and Broad is back on track to be converted into apartments, with demo already underway inside the building?

jc – I think that Sisson has changed hands since then.

Is the moped shop going to be in the former gas station that most recently was used as a garden store? At the corner of 21st and Marshall?

There is a garage further up (28th & Marshall?) that is rumored to be moving. That is the space, I think.

Pritchard Bros? Wow. They’ve been in the neighborhood for donkeys years! Must be somewhere else. I’ll check it out after work today.

Where is 16 North 31st Street? In Sugar Bottom? North 30th Street comes off of Libby Terrace, but 31st Street doesn’t. All I can figure is it’s somewhere down there in the kudzu, near the beginning of the railroad tunnel, where East Franklin goes down the hill and winds around to Williamsburg Avenue.

I can’t see Pritchard Bros moving but who knows. As to the gas station at 21st and Marshall, there was a truck and front end loader in there today at lunch, doing some sort of clean up of the lot. It’s been for rent awhile I think.

    Would 16 N. 31st be that large building at 31st and Main/Williamsburg?

I looked it up in city’s web and got five single family houses. Never saw anything like that in the city’s database. Anyhow, whoever put out this rumor – jc – where’d you get the tentative plat review info? It appears that someone might be about to try to develop Sugar Bottom, there are actually five houses there on one lot.

    Hi Celeste,

The kudzu is where all the little groundhogs live. Are you sure Sugar Bottom is speculation? It’s very convenient if they can move all that cinder block. Does “Bloody Run” extend down there?

I found the information on the City of Richmond’s Community Development page.

neat resource, if not quite well-formatted for the web:

    2605 O St – Construct three single-family attached homes.

2010 E Franklin St – Construct apartments, retail and parking in new and existing buildings.

    700 N 31st St – Tentative Plat Approval for 3 Lots

    623 N 25th St – Authorize waiver of off-street parking requirements

It seems that we need to work on an area plan of Church Hill in the way that the Downtown Master Plan is being done. I believe that Rachel Flynn, City Planning Director, intends to update plans for other parts of the City, including CH, using community involvement similar to the downtown plan. I think we should encourage them to make this happen as soon as possible so we as a community can have input.

  17. posted by Celeste at August 23, 2007 9:05 am [#]:

Hey John thanks for the link, and jc thanks for the info, I don’t think it’s a lame use of your time at all!

I’m still trying to figure this out, but I think the owner is trying to get permission to have five lots there, apparently the city considers the five existing frame houses as being built on one lot. So the owner is trying to get permission to subdivide into five lots. And even that permission doesn’t mean anyone’s going to do anything immediately – could just be permission to subdivide legally so that in the future five other houses could be built there. That’s my take on it.

I read the rest of the things in the city logbook – John listed some above, 623 N. 25th is Que Pasa’s application…I didn’t see an address on either 17th or E. Broad that could be Sisson’s building, so I guess that rumor’s still unsubstantiated (sp?)

Hey jc, thanks for the info! Remains to be seen how many more apartments or condos we can absorb, but hopefully they’ll get beyond the demo stage and do something with that building.

I think the garage that john_m is referring to on 28th and Marshall (it’s actually 2700 block of Marshall) is a smaller garage next door to the Pritchard Bros. I hope the moped repair shop goes in there. Lots of folks up here with scooters and that’s a convenient location.

I am interested in knowing if there is something going into the old school on Venable and if so what is going to be, and why as a community have we not been sent out anything on it. As well as somthing being posted in the front of the building. I have seen work being done on, as well as men coming and going in it. If you have any knowledge I would be greatful, to know what to expect.

I have been wondering about the red painted brick church on Marshall near 26th st. For ages they had a sign that said moved to creighton and all of a sudden there has been construction happening.

Is the church coming back or even better is it going to be a community space or something FUN?!?

anyone got the digs on that building??

  23. posted by Laura Daab at August 23, 2007 4:19 pm [#]:

To my knowledge they are doing maintenance on the building. Although they hold services on Creighton, the congregation still uses the building for a variety of things including choir practice.

I’ve heard from credible sources that there was at least some consideration of condo conversion on that church.

Sisson is on! I got some photos of the demo in progress today (more later, my network is crappy). The plan is for Sisson and Forms&Fixtures to get done, with construction going into that space between them, too.

There is no moped shop moving to church hill. The only moped shop in town is at 711 Hospital Street, and thats called Moped Cafe. They are thinking about moving to the fan (near robinson and cary).

It could be a scooter shop??
