a different type of neighborhood market?

Marketplace ran a story this evening, Corner stores on the edge, about how corner stores change (or don’t) as neighborhoods change around them.

Good photo of that old pre-Buzzy’s market. I wonder what will become of the corner store across from my house on Venable. Bit by bit the neighborhood will leave him behind if he doesn’t make changes.

I wonder of Church Hill Market will ever be built?

    Great question Grrr….

What is the status of the Church Hill Market? Last I heard, they were issued a SUP, the jobsite fencing is gone, but no discernable activity since. Can anyone out there fill us in?

Well,Handyman Pete was living in there for a while, but I think he left to pursue his dreams of being on American Idol

I heard the project is dead… One of the major players pulled out about a year ago.

The most recent newsletter from the Church Hill market included info about new site plans, which say that “work should move right along now”.

I think that the “new site plans” reference is just public relations. Or the delusions of a addled mind. In other words, I would love to see a good neighborhood market, but would not bet on this happening any time soon.

That same CHurch Hill Market newsletter offered online links to a bio of the owner/developer, should anyone be sycophantish enough to care.

um hummmm. we’ve heard that before….

The site plans mentioned are two years old…. the project is dead…

The addled mind is busy blowing smoke to see how long he can stay off of the City’s blighted property list…. How does one recover from that monumental mistake?

I miss my corner store! I hope the concept of corner store doesn’t go away. What I want in a corner store is someplace I can walk to buy convenience items such as cat food, milk, beer, and cigarettes.

The Church Hill Market seems to just be taking up space that could be occupied by some one else. If I want to buy “gourmet” items, I don’t mind driving to a store.

But I hate having to drive to FasMart just to pick up a quick item.

I don’t know about cigarettes and beer, but having an outlet for decent prepared food would be great for the CH Market space. I hate having to get on 64 just to get a good meal for under $10.

What is going on with the Church Hill Market? I ordered a mug off of their website for a Christmas gift almost a month ago and my order status is still ‘Pending.’ They have already debited my account for this item. I’ve sent them an email requesting the expected delivery date - no response. I’ve tried calling them using the number they provide on their site - the voicemail box is full. If they are no longer selling merchandise, they need to stop accepting payments.
