about comments

I’m not willing to let this site become a bastion of negativity and sarcasm. Your snarky annonymous comment may or may not be deleted.

I’m not anti-humor, but I don’t do this so that folks can hide behind a witty pseudonym and try to score points off of someone. I’m not against annonymous posting, either: I respect that folks have reasons to not want to always attach their names to things that they might feel compelled to say or share.

I’m not putting this out there to shut down anyone’s opinion on any given position or in response to anyone’s complaints. I’m saying this in response to comments by folks that may or may not be assholes (or something similar) that have negatively influenced the tone of dialogue here.

If you do not agree with this minor amount of moderation, you can always start your own site or instead comment via the unmoderated Church Hill Yahoo Group.

So much for an open forum!

I’m not making this any less open. Everyone’s opinion is still valued. Having said that, what I am getting tired of are the annonymous juvenile snarky attacks.

i suggest that once the editor recognizes that the comments avoid the topic and get to the “annonymous juvenile snarky attacks” then those comments could be redirected to a “bitch slap” page so that they could continue, keeping an “open forum” and readers could continue to visit/comment on the topic without the “bitch slap” or simply go to the “bitch slap” page and indulge

Thanks John. I think the word immature might be applied rather than “Snarky” but that’s between different ages.

Bill — I like that, some sort of overflow page. Let me think on that a little more.

John, this is why I have been reluctant to host a community blog for Oregon Hill. We keep the Yahoo group to just residents so we can have discussions on our own.

That said, I see the value of having one, I may just not turn on comments. I will be interested in seeing how this goes.

    Its definitely a balancing act.

    John,

You’re providing an absolute wonderfull service for your community. Anyone using it should take into account that you are running the site free of charge on your own time and that you can let it be as open as you want and set moderations as you see fit. I for one truly appreciate everthing that you do for the community.

I agree with Heather. However, Church Hill is a very diverse community. Consider this before applying censorship. Nevertheless, keep on keeping on.

    Dearest “Admin”:

Something good came of this, as I love the linked Flame Warrior site. Who among us cannot appreciate a nicely done, on-line personality caricature typology?

    yes, overflow sounds right

I like the Flame Warrior site too! I’ve found myself in about three or four caricatures.

How ’bout when the delinquents get out of hand (myself included at times), instead of sending them to the principal’s office or face expulsion, you put them in detention where they can throw spit balls at each other? The alt page is my vote - if I have one.

Also, posting under someone else’s name will get your comment deleted.

Dear anonymous CH neighbor of October 3 (9:13 pm),

I edited your comment to remove your personal comment about the Wileys.

I don’t know them and I don’t know you, so this is absolutely not personal, but it seems like if you are going to comment on someone’s reputation like that then you should sign your name to it. Some kind of substantiating example would be nice, otherwise it is smear job.

I’m posting this here because the email that I sent to the address that you provided bounced back, indicating that it is probably not a valid address.

Unmoderated Church Hill Group at Yahoo is an understatement… that would be Laura Daab’s site and she doesn’t even answer posts there - or at least the last time I visited before spammers took over! Too bad… it was a hopeful place to inject information and comments about North of Broad Church Hill since she spearheaded the Association (very loosely called that).
