I went to some of these meetings back in the fall, back when they were pretending that the mayor was asking for our input on what to do with the local schools. I don’t recall anyone suggesting that King Doug eviscerate the public schools and throw money at charter schools. What a waste of energy and time.

What the hell is there to eviserate?

Do you really think that Richmond’s public schools are what they should be and that wasteful spending does not abound throughout the system?

I may not agree with all his tactics, but Wilder is right to question the administrative competence of the the Superintendent’s office.

As a teacher at a neighborhood school, I was very excited about the initial versions of the City of the Future plan. We do need some new schools and we do need work on the buildings that we can keep. I’m much less excited by the squabbling of the powers that be and the resulting scaling back of the plans for the schools.

From the inside, it looks bad that money is being withheld, no matter what the reason. I also have opinions about what the working folk refer to as “downtown”, but I should probably refrain from going into that in such a public forum. It really seems like this is something that should be settled in a much less divisive manner.

And I’d like to say that I’m impressed by the way that Keith West is handling this, he seems to be working to resolve the issue w/out succumbing the combativeness that has taken everyone else.

I totally agree with you on Keith West.
