   The article sounds like they’re putting together some facts that have happened, over time and in First Precinct as a whole, and are using them to prove one thing: if it bleeds, it leads. Church Hill is as safe now, as long as you are smart, as it has ever been. Good People, don’t let the media whip something into a frenzy that doesn’t exist! Thank you and I’m off of my soapbox.

   Well, there certainly were crimes committed but I wouldn’t call it a wave. It’s definately been safer and more calm than in the past. These are important issues and people should educate themselves about the area that they are in. It must be a slow news week. I’m just glad “the looney dog catcher girl” isn’t the top story anymore :D

   I myself have witnessed a spree of Jaywalkers. And I think my neighbor leaved his recycling bin out an extra day. Does that count

   I see what you are trying to say, but I think that you are wrong, and that they are actually completely opposite scenerios.

   When the dogs were killing cats, folks were reporting dead cats at specific locations. And these folks weren’t anonymous, either — the posters signed their name and gave a real email address. It seemed to me like neighbors sharing info with neighbors.

   2 times recently, though, the local media that is big enough to know better, has half-assedly reported on things in such a way as to make things look worse than they may actually be. This looks like so-called professionals stirring shit up for the sake of stirring shit up.

   So, how many crimes over what period of time can be considered a crime “wave”. We need to establish a base rate, a time frame, a seasonal estimate of crime’s “natural” fluctuation…and last but not least, a book to read as we turn off our insipid TVs.

    The local media, much like most of the realtors around here, do not know where Church Hill is. It is not in the 1100 block of N. 24th street. Neither is Union Hill, Fairfield Ct, etc. In fact, most the properties north of Broad are not in Church Hill! ADC has it wrong as well –and they know about it and should be correcting it soon. Help them to understand it whenever you have the chance. Sometimes we get more credit than we deserve for crimes that happen elsewhere.

    This should help - the actual boundaries spelled out on ACORN’s website. What the police call Church Hill North beyond M Street is not Church Hill. Also, properties between Broad and M are in Church Hill –not “Church Hill North.” Here’s the description: “Located from North 20th Street to 32nd Street and from East Franklin Street to Jefferson Parkway and M Street.”

    The police pull from the city GIS, I think, or at least that would make sense. I’m not trying to argue the information that you provide, just looking for context for how the city approaches this.

    There is Church Hill and then there is Church Hill. There is this neat larger and ill-defined area colloquially called Church Hill, encompassing the St.John’s area and the neighborhoods around that. It is this larger community that I find particularly compelling, in its breadth and diversity and interconnectedness.

    I also appreciate the different flavors of the neighborhoods in this larger Church Hill area. Towards enouraging awareness of these neighborhoods, I’ve started tagging posts on this site with a neighborhood name whenever I can or it is relevent (for example: Fairmount, Union Hill, Church Hill).

    I am not sure where you get your authority for your second paragraph, but based on what it says, I guess we could call just about anything east of 95 “Church Hill” –but we would be factually wrong. If you live North of M Street, you do not live in Church Hill. Sorry, but you don’t. If you live in Mosby Court, you do not live in Church Hill. Sorry again. If people would stop being so lazy and do some research, they may find that these other neighborhoods also have rich histories and actual names –but those names are not Church Hill.

    You tell them GRRRRRR! I for one want to bring back the tradition of having walled sections with in a city. We can build a wall surroudning Church Hill using the old bricks dumped at the bottom of Chimborazo and the charge a toll for people passing through. This would raise money for teh neighborhood association and perhaps keep down the crime wave being perpetrated by “dangerous dogs” and wicker end tables theifs.

    Please be aware of a White Ford/Cheverlot Pickup truck with brownish-red side panels, very old and beat-up looking - cruising in alleys to scope out targets for theft in the afternoon hours of the day.

    Two black males, 40’s, close cut hair, 5′10″ - 6′0″, 200 - 215 lbs., one has a full beard and mustache (close-cut), the other has a close-cut mustache.

    03/12/2007 @ 2pm - both individuals jumped fence behind 517 N. 32nd Street and stole two large swinging doors (painted white with window in top half of door) from back porch. Police were called, showed up immediately, and given complete description (with attire).

    Suspects headed eastbound on Leigh Street towards Chimborazo after trespassing and theft.

    Black male, late 50’s, 6′O”-6′2″, 190lbs., always wears baseball cap, clean-shaven, close cut hair, big chin is dominant feature on face, walks with a very distinct “bob” up and down (looks like feet are walking in front of him) - tends to wear black, worn-out sneakers and jeans that are up around the ankles. This person surfaces every Spring and primarily targets construction sites and work vans.

    Keep your eyes open - these people need to know that it is not OK to take whatever they please from someone else.

    The 1st Precinct has identified the owner and occupant of the Ford pickup truck that has been cruising the alleys (license plate KEX-3791). The truck and individuals match the description of who the RPD
    suspect for many of these thefts. The RPD/1st Precinct is going to give them some major attention. Thanks to all of the communication between the RPD and law-abiding citizens, we are going to catch these people and continue to make our community a better place to live.

    Thanks for at least mentioning that the main area called Church Hill is that which surrounds St John’s Church.

    Now GRRRRRRRRRR,explain in your inimitable way where is Shedtown? Where is Union Hill? Who was it that named these places? Does it have anything to do with those who worked at Tredegar Iron Works during the Civil War?

    Come on GRRRRRRRRRR! Do your thing!!
