Just entered the Armstrong football schedule into the calendar. Kind of weird thinking about Nov, still feels like Aug. http://bit.ly/cSFxqD

Erosion at Jefferson Park a problem?

Over the past few months, the previously unstable southern hill at Jefferson Park has begun to gully and wash away.

Erosion at Jefferson Park

The gully at Jefferson Park begins at the end of a ditch and runs for 12 to 15 feet. It is already a few feet deep, and just above the area that collapsed during Gaston. Similar erosion is present in Chimborazo Park (for example).

Does anyone know of plans to further stabilize these hills?

The Friends of Jefferson Park have requested that the erosion be addressed and that the stairs lost in Tropical Storm Gaston be replaced. With the historic mudslide and close proximity to the train tunnel, the erosion is more likely to turn into another disaster. I am not certain all the recent activity around the train tunnel area didnt contribute to the erosion problem.

If you are lucky, the city will address it the same way they did the bottom gully at Chimborazo…declare it a “wildlife” area so they no longer have to keep it up.

Please note that the City has taken steps to stem the erosion problem on the Jefferson Park Hillside. This is a temporary fix. We hoping money will be put in the budget to stabilze the hillside and replace the stairwell lost in Gaston.

The Friends of Jefferson Park meets on the last Monday of each month at 7pm at locations TBA. Tonight’s meeting will be at 2314 Jefferson Avenue- next to the Tricycle Garden. Please join us!
