   QUESTION: Is this the first time Reverend McQuinn has engaged in developing a strategic plan for the district? If not, does anyone knows what the previous strategic plans were?

   This is what government does…hold meetings, make plans, hold more meetings, make more plans, but implement none of them. However, when she runs for reelection again, she can point to her efforts to make plans.

   And I keep calling her office about puggle rights and never get anywhere with her

   Actually McQuinn stole the Strategic Plan idea(that she her assistant email yesterday) from the Mayor’s Roundtable meetings, all bullet points are exactly the same except she added ‘Youth Programs’ to her supposedly ‘new’ idea.

   Plus, she doesn’t even have a list of people to email to, so she also stole the distribution list from the Mayor’s Roundtable meeting. The distribution list from the Roundtable meetings is made up of people who have attended at least one of those meetings and signed in, giving their names and email addresses. Even if they don’t continue to attend, they are notified of future Roundtable meetings as they have shown previous interest in attending as concerned citizens.

   Apparenly McQuinn doesn’t have any original ideas at all. And to answer f’s question above, yes to my knowledge this is the first time she’s even addressed the issue - but she didn’t really address it, she STOLE it from the Roundtable meetings and the concerned citizens who have attended those meetings.

   Funny, I thought that the Round table basically “stole” comments made here on this site to form their strategic plan. It might be interesting for people to lay down their political knives for a short while, participate in one or both of these plans, see if there is any difference in outcomes. Or, since the council is only supposed to deal in certain areas of governance (see Sharon Burton’s list of proposed Council responsibilities somewhere else on this site) ..and if the Round table actually subscribed to that division of powers, they would have a much less ambitious strategic plan (one that did not deal in policy, land use etc). In actuality, if these division of powers were an actual serious policy suggestion, then we would have the Councilperson’s plan be the policy plan, and then the Mayor’s round table would form a separate process to design the implementation and measurable outcomes of the plan (as is there self made charge, administration).

   McQuinn had a strategic plan in place before the roundtable ever thought of one. Call down city hall. This roundtable is not representing the whole district anyway. I have some serious concerns with this so called roundtable. This was developed by the Mayor to have his own copycat council. The hell with the roundtable.

   Another thing. McQuinn has to have vision. Look at where the district was 10 years ago. Under her leadership the district has progressed and will continue……………..Wake up Celeste…. Celeste needs to define the word assume because it definitely fits. McQuinn didn’t steal anything. You really need to focus on yourself.

   Gadfly, I concede that Sharon did gather a lot of the comments on this website, as well as what people brought to the Roundtable meetings - and she did it in an honest effort to get people heard in a way that they had not been heard before.

   Shawn, do you mean a Master Plan, otherwise known as Comprehensive Plan? McQ. didn’t put that in place, it’s required by state law and deals with land use and zoning. The current one is ten years old and is, I believe, being reviewed by the city. Lora also mentioned that somewhere else on this site. It’s put together by the Dept. of Community Development, not council, although council, in voting on special uses and other land use issues does have to refer to it. A portion of the ideas generated in the strategic plan that the Roundtable came up with involved land use, such as suggestions for the 25th St. business corridor, hence Sharon forwarded the ideas to Rachel Flynn in the Dept. of Comm. Dev. for inclusion in the current revision of the Master Plan if possible.

   I see from Shawn’s (and Celeste’s) rhetoric that this is going to be a wholly political process. I would hasten to add that unless council and the mayor can start working together, then I do not predict that your average civic minded person is going to put much weight in either of these processes. If this is just a dual exercise in political hackery (as it seems to be) then why would anyone without a direct political stake in this process bother to get involved? This whole thing needs a bit more legitimacy (Celeste?) as well as a bit more professionalism (Shawn?).

    I attended several meetings at Onslow Minnis in reference to the Strategic Plan that was presented 2 years ago. Ms. Burton didn’t attend that meeting. The plan may need to be updated, but make no mistake………..There is one in place. There are only a few people at the roundtable meeting. The few doesn’t represent the entire district Gadfly. I agree there needs to be some togetherness, but copycat councils is not the answer. it is Council’s role to write policy not the roudtable.

    Shawn - Do you think Ms. McQuinn could show her previous strategic plans to the the Church Hill Civic Assocation, Fulton Civic Assocation, Roundtable, or some other neighborhoods groups and organizations? It would be a big help. Thanks!

    Eric, consider this — the election showed that McQuinn has the support of the majority of the district, and we know that only a small percentage of folks in the district see this site and an even smaller percentage turn out for the Roundtable meetings.
