a story from 27th Street

A neighbor saw a man steal a lawn mower from another neighbor and called the police, but the story doesn’t end there. He followed the suspect all the while calling the police and even photographed the suspect with the lawn mower. Now, the cops didn’t get the suspect (but have asserted that they will), but the lawn mower was returned before the victim even knew that it was stolen.

I wondered what the whole deal was with that, pretty cool. All I knew is that yesterday afternoon there were all of a sudden like 6 cops walking in our back yard and the alley. One of them came up and told us they were looking for a lawnmower. I guess they found it near here because I saw them walking it up the street. Good job neighbour.

Love it! How about a photo of the guy with the mower? I found recently that a small Alabama newspaper, when it prints an article about someone’s recent arrest for a crime, includes a link in the news article to the arrestee’s mug shot. That would be a nice addition to our local news.

Church Hill neighbors are the best. One of ours thwarted a break-in at our house back in 1972, and we knew we had found the right community. Good to see the tradition lives on!

I’m still working on finding the guy and I’m waiting for the citizen to e mail me the photos so I can put them out to the community.

we do pull together all right…last night we had what sounded like a Starsky and Hutch car chase revolving around Cedar and M from 21st to 22nd……I rolled out the front door to see them hauling past and soon everyone was out……some girl had left her car suseptible to theft and she and her boyfriend had seen it go past and they took up chase…..squealing tires and no lights and all. The chase stopped with the perp and passenger stopping on M at 22nd and running off apparently tired of the chase. Unfortunately the cops got there a bit late to find them despite several people giving a description of them…so close to Venable and Mosby anyone can melt into the night. One downside was that the car that was stolen had a gun in it according to the owner…..the cops understandably were not pleased with that and let it be known.

The suspect was arrested for this theft and may be tied to others. Yet another bad guy off the streets.

The victim did not come to court, saying something about someone “made” him press charges. None the less, there was still a successful prosecution of the case. Thanks to the concerned citizen that reported the crime. As for the victim, there’s a rumor that he may have been a victim of another crime. As you can see, good people, there is justice.
