Union Hill man arrested in Northside murder
Jonathan Fuller, of the 2100 block of M Street, was charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the April 7 shooting of Alphonso Wright in the 3500 block of Maryland Avenue in North Richmond. [via]

local student Jeremy Henley shot
Jeremy Henley, 15-years-old and of the 700 block of North 33rd Street, was fatally shot in the head yesterday afternoon while visiting his girlfriend at her home in the 2800 block of Fairfield Avenue. Henley was due to graduate next week from Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. [via] [via]

Richmond housing chief owns vacant, blighted property
The RTD reported yesterday that “Freed G. Etienne took office yesterday as the city’s first deputy chief administrative officer in charge of housing, land use and community development”. He is the “new housing boss to spearhead efforts in community development”. Here is the rub: Etienne is the owner of at least one property in the neighborhood that has been vacant and blighted for years. This is how you develop a community?

shooting at Fairmount House
An unidentified 47-year-old man was shot in the groin at about 5:15 p.m. at the Fairmount House, a home for handicapped and disabled seniors 1500 block of North 21st Street that was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [via]

June Union Hill YTD crime stats
The June 2006 YTD crime stats for Union Hill are now available. The numbers show a 14% reduction in violent crime, 42% reduction in property crimes, and a 35% reduction in major crimes.
