   Luckily, no one was injured in this incident. And, in answer to your question about who robs a flower shop… a couple of cowards that are void of any male anatomy.

   WTF? People, we really have to get together and watch over each other. It’s BS that it’s gotten to the point that flower stores are being robbed AT GUNPOINT in the middle of the day! Whatever area you live or work in, make it a point to know your neighbors and stop in to say “hi”. Franklin Market in Shockoe Bottom was broken into 3 TIMES Sunday night. Some of the “bums” that hang around recognized the man (and stolen merchandise) Monday afternoon and notified the store owner and neighbors. Within minutes the man was surrounded by the locals (business owners, patrons and local “bums”). Until police arrived. Remember this is YOUR neighborhood. Do something about it!

   Black males. 1 in a white T shirt and jeans (this is the one with the weapon). 2 is a black male, 6′2″ thin, with a orange, blue and white striped long sleve shirt with a short sleve blue shirt on under it, blue jeans or work pants. May have been heading northeast. That’s the direction they came from.

   This may not be completely applicable to this thread, but my wife saw something last Sunday afternoon that was a tad scary. At the corner of 19th and Broad, in front of McD’s, there was a guy passed out (and drooling!). He was wearing a mesh shirt with two handguns clearly visible in his waistband. My wife called me and I promptly called the cops. (I’d love to know how that turned out). I guess I mention this because as the post above says … this is our neighborhood.

   Anytime a neighborhood has poor people and drug addicts for residents you are going to have robberies anywhere and everywhere at anytime. That’s reality.

   I’m not hard hearted about what happened at Church Hill Herbs, but the owner should install a video camera. They are not that expensive and many of them automatically rewind themselves.

   The rest of us need to be smart about how we go about our business. Use clubs on your cars, install alarms in your homes. Be cautious after dark and aware of your surroudings no matter what time of day.

   And yes, be a good neighbor and try to watch out for each other.

   Though I’m not familiar with any of these crimes or whether other businesses in the immediate vicinity have been robbed, I would suggest that the owner of the building consider embracing some Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) strategies. Specifically by increasing the amount of “natural surveillance” into the store. The flower shop and the old thrift store have small windows and wooden doors which prevent pedestrian or vehicle traffic from seeing into the buildings, making them easier targets for daytime holdups.
