We had another theft up here in Union Hill..
This time somebody pulled the granite blocks off the front retaining wall as well as the granite steps ( appox 6 to 8 sets) of an antebellum (pre Civil War) house at 2116 Cedar Street.
The house had been marked for demo until ACORN stepped in to stop the city with a buyer and an engineer to declare the house structurally sound and a candidate for rehab.
I’m trying to find the new owner to let them know some very enterprising crew has relieved him of one of the more valuable aspects of his house.
It had to have taken 3 or 4 big strong guys with pry bars and a big truck to get those blocks off and gone.
One of the neighbors that had worked on the retaining wall some years back said it must have happened during the day last week as he noticed it all missing this past weekend.
I asked the next door neighbors if they had seen anything….nada.
The 3 or 4 blocks of granite on the retaining wall were appox 4 to 5 ft long , 6 inches high by 10 inches wide
The steps were appox 8 inches high by 10 inches wide by 3 foot long and there were 6 to 8 of them.
