Aren’t we clever? We destroy our own neighborhood in an effort to make a point about how much we care about it. Now the whole city is left with the impression we don’t maintain our property and we are proud of it. Nice work! (Might not be a good time to try to sell your house, though).
Don’t get me wrong. I think leaving anonymous letters is silly. I got one of those letters one summer because grass was growing between the bricks in front of my house, and I was none too happy about it. This has been going on for years; my daughter was a baby when I got my letter and she’s now eight years old. But as much as I deplore the method used – and knowing what it’s like to get one of those letters – I don’t disagree with the message. I realize that it’s no longer PC in Church Hill to want or expect your neighbor to maintain his or her property, and I fully expect to hear that I should “move out to the west end”, but it is my opinion that the pink birds do more harm to the neighborhood than any silly anonymous letter could.
