Removal of the stucco from the former fish market at 25th and M Streets has uncovered an old Bromo-Seltzer sign.

The long boarded up commercial space at Leigh and 25th Streets temporarily sported some witty and insightful graffiti. Someone put a voice balloon on the plywood window with the simple statement “I’d prefer to be a bookstore.” UPDATED PHOTO

fatal shooting on Ambrose Street
George H. Grant Jr., of the 3100 block of East Franklin Street, was shot at 8:30am Saturday while in the 2300 block of Ambrose Street and later died at VCU Medical Center.

nbc12.com is reporting that damning evidence was entered into the court record concerning the shooting of Santanna Olavarria by Richmond Police Officer Michael Couture during a May 29, 2004, car stop at Mechanicsville Turnpike and Fairfield Way.

One day the old fishmarket at 25th and M Streets will be a restaurant tentatively named The Five Points Grill. The future a vision of John Sanchez, the site is right now a dusty behive of activity.

Style Magazine has a nice article about brunch at Millie’s Diner. “Cars pull up, passengers pile out and into line, but most guests seem to arrive on foot, walking the few blocks from Tobacco Row or Church Hill.”

Philip Johnson’s temple on the hill
The August 8 issue of the print-only City Edition has a long article about the old WRVA building at 200 North 22nd Street. Designed by architect Philip Johnson in 1969, the unique poured-concrete building is now home to the Memorial Child Guidance Clinic.
