Neighborhoods in Bloom is working well

The RTD has a story that says that Richmond’s Neighborhoods in Bloom program is doing so well it is expected to serve as a catalyst for other cities that hope to turn blight into economically viable areas.

Officer who killed man resigns

Michael Couture, the Richmond police officer who shot and killed Santanna Bryant Olavarria during a May 29, 2004, car stop at Mechanicsville Turnpike and Fairfield Way, has resigned from the force.

suspect arrested in 2003 shooting

Richmond police announced that Broderick Frezelle Jones, 28, has arrested and charged with murder in the Oct. 14, 2003, shooting death of Damon Sherod Finney. Finney, 19, was shot to death on the back porch of his cousin’s home during a robbery attempt in the 2000 block of Fairmount Avenue.

Service for Cannon is Thursday

A funeral service for Thomas Cannon Sr., a retired Richmond postal worker and philanthropist, is set for noon Thursday at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St.

Popular transvestite is Richmond’s 52nd homicide of the year

April Marie Walker, a 45-year-old transvestite who lived in the 2000 block North 29th Street, was found shot this morning in the doorway of his apartment in the Creighton Court public housing.
