Richmond housing projects revamp
The Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority wants to redevelop the entire Richmond housing projects system. No more Gilpin, Fairfield, Creighton or Mosby Court. They could all be gone in 10 years…
The RRHA says these pockets of poverty are bad for the city and is ready to make a change. The Richmond Redevelopment Housing Authority says putting the city’s low income residents all in one area leads to poor schools, high crime and unhappy residents.
Instead RRHA officials want to offer vouchers to low income residents, so they can move into privately run apartments spread out throughout the city. The housing authority could then turn old public housing neighborhoods into new mixed income homes. The RRHA has already redeveloped the Blackwell neighborhood using this model.

Yo, RRHA need to revitalize dis neighborhood. My moms done been robbed 3 times. I wish we had some better fences and some security alarms.
Chicago is the model city for moving residents of the projects into established regular neighborhoods. Crime has not been reduced, but it has just followed former-project residents into new pockets of the city. This model has not worked for Chicago. Someone needs to do their research.
