real estate tax assessments to rise
Real estate tax assessment notices are due to arrive in city mailboxes tomorrow and Thursday. Two unnamed City Council members who have been briefed by Richmond tax assessor Richie McKeithen say assessments could rise between 20 percent and 40 percent for some homes in the city’s 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th council districts. Some of the assessments are expected to jump so high that City Council members are already talking about a tax rate cut to cushion the blow.

Town Hall Meeting: Crime

insane real estate assessments
Yesterday when we quoted the RTD as reporting that “assessments could rise between 20 percent and 40 percent for some homes”, we though that meant that 40% was the high end. A quick check on some houses in the area, though, shows increases of over 200%!

Shooting at 24th and R Streets

Nolde Bakery groundbreaking ceremony
A groundbreaking ceremony took place Tuesday afternoon as part of the $20 million project to turn the historic Nolde Bakery building into luxury condos. The condos project is scheduled to be finished later this year.
