anybody lose a beagle?
Kathleen sends in word of a found beagle:
I came home this evening to find a small male beagle asleep on our front doormat. No collar. He’s about 3-4 years old and approximately 15″ tall. I am afraid that someone has abandoned him in our fenced front yard, knowing that I work with rescues. I haven’t had a chance to have him checked for a microchip, but I will take him tomorrow. In the meantime, if you hear of anyone that is missing a tri-color beagle, please pass on my phone number (804.339.2492) and/or forward this email. His pics are attached. He’s a sweet boy - seems to be housebroken and is good with my other dogs. His temporary name is Ernie.

Hill Cafe’s rack of lamb is “really effing good”
Richmond foodblog i wish i could cook visits the Hill Cafe and raves about the rack of lamb and the folks all around:
My god, there were six pieces, not like the 2 you get at Can Can for twice the price, a delish pile of redskin-mashed potatoes and perfectly crisp broccoletti all doused in rosemary beurre blanc. Holy shit, it was really effing good. The lamb was more rare than medium rare but it wasn’t the least bit gamey. If my arteries could have handled another sea of butter, I wish we would have ordered two.

5 stars for It Must Be Heaven
Ginger Warder makes a visit to It Must Be Heaven and says that “if you love gourmet ice cream, the name is true.” The 5-star review has great things to say about the soup, too:
What surprised me was not the great ice cream, but the great soup. Owner Stan Jones (she’s a woman by the way) has a killer recipe for Jumbo Lump Crab Soup. Made fresh daily, the peppery and piping hot soup is loaded with big chunks of delectable crab and served with a warm piece of garlic bread. Pricing is by the ounce ($1 per) and my eight-ounce bowl was worth every penny. Stan also offers a chicken muddle soup, as well as a potato, bacon and cheddar and a mushroom, and after my delicious bowl of crab, I’ll be dropping by to try all of the other varieties.

the new trend towards affordable and environmentally friendly housing
An article on environmentally-friendly construction in the RTD a few days ago, a look at the growing interest in green construction, drops that Better Housing Coalition moved “exclusively to building EarthCraft-certified developments” back in 2005, and that Habitat for Humanity’s Pillars at Oakmont will be certified as well:
Having mastered the process, Richmond Habitat will build all its future projects to EarthCraft standards, including its next one, a 15-town home development planned for T and 33rd streets in Richmond’s East End near Armstrong High School.
