Multiple sources are reporting that explosives were found during construction of the Josh Bilder project across from fire station. One reader reports that “Police said possibly old WWII explosives and are rerouting traffic.”
Another reader says “there was a bunch of ammunition and two grenades according to the police.”

Headline should probably be a little more specific.
In 2008 a Chesterfield civil war collector was killed by old ordnance that exploded. So I’m glad to hear its under control and no one got hurt.
Omg!!

RPD EOD is currently here and the Army is coming at 3 for removal. Apparently it was modern paraphernalia along with some Vietnam-era pieces.

Linda MacGill Steele it’s literally in our “backyard” so… I stay inside?

Maybe it’s not Vietnam era explosives. Maybe it’s related to the Upside Down. #StrangerThings
Wow how scary is that

Based on the NBC12 photo, we have:
1 60mm mortar round
2 MK2 “pineapple” grenades
1 25mm round (type unknown)
1 40mm HE grenade
and a bunch of rust. Nothing in here is “exotic.” But based on the MK2s going out of service in the 60s, these are either dummies or someone got really lucky when moving them.
Whoops! We drove by & I told the kids it must be a drill. Guess not.

They really shouldn’t have removed those munitions… they were put there to cover the RVA Hell Mouth should it open again… FOOLS!!!

Haha, my first thought was demolition tools were found (construction site), then my next thought was terrorism.
Well at least they are period appropriate.
Authorities probably should check the Episcopalians near the area.
I don’t get the joke?
Actually Jessica very little humor. I’ve often noticed in news and opinion reports when someone obviously in favor of profiling the people who might be terrorists say, “Its not the Episcopalians or Methodists that are beheading people”. I suspect my attempts at humor are often obtuse.

Because it’s really tasteful to make a “joke” equating Muslims with terrorists the day after one of your Muslim neighbors is shot and killed at his business.

Just an opinion, but it actually looks like Edward was pointing out the racism in people saying that, and was being ironic…let’s be careful not to jump down people’s throats
Okay rereading it and you’re right…like Jerry Orbach, when I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong. Sorry, Edward!
I asked Josh if they know who or why they were there but he has not emailed me back so, has anyone else here found out the backstory on these being hidden in a wall all of these years? Dangerous and lucky they did not explode from deterioration over the years.
