Local man arrested in string of Henrico burglaries

WTVR has word that 18-year-old Tyler O’Keefe Cary of Marshall Street and West End resident Keymani Kavansa Gardner have been arrested in Henrico in connection with a string of burglaries:

During the month of July, Henrico detectives investigated multiple residential burglaries that were determined to be related. Six of the burglaries occurred in the 60/90 zone along the Three Chopt Rd and Patterson Ave. corridor. Two occurred on Varann Rd. in the Varina area.

Officers recovered evidence which implicated Cary and Gardner in seven additional residential burglaries.

Several Firearms, electronics, other valuables and two vehicles were stolen during the course of the burglaries.

Is this the same guy you fine neighbors were talking about months ago?

This really breaks my heart. Tyler was one of the first kids to come to the shop. He had the best head on his shoulders, and polite.

Yes. Same kid. Was happening on the hill for many months. Sad because we’ve watched him grow up. So many concerning factors that fed into this outcome.

Can’t help but think it’s a shame that in these sorts of situations no one seems to be able to intervene or catch kids like them early enough. I’m under the impression (maybe false, don’t want to speak out of turn here…) that they had been engaged in this sort of behavior for at least a few years before ultimately getting arrested. I don’t think that they would be much better off in the long term by virtue of not being tried as adults, but if someone had been able to set them straight when they were, oh, fourteen or fifteen years old…

I hope their victims are vindicated AND they turn their lives around. (Do those things have to be mutually exclusive?)

So sad – obviously the kid had some issues. He was so polite but it appears he was robbing the neighborhood blindly. I caught these two trespassing on my property two years ago and made them aware of my presence. Both were very polite and had some excuse that sounded kind of plausible since they were neighbors, but kept my eye on them after that and increased my security. Am just glad that they were finally caught and are safe – I always worried they would be shot during a robbery.

it is sad but why is it “poor kid” when he steals guns, cars, computers (with personal info) and more, but when a single mom get gunned down in the alley …”why was she in the alley” …”it’s her and her friend’s fault, must of been up to no good”?

both are tragic realities, but there should not be such a disproportionate amount of sympathy for one over the other

@8 resident, I tend to agree with you. Matter of fact, I’m not sure why this is such a tragedy except I happen to know the parents, and they most likely aren’t happy with this but I don’t think it rises to the level of tragedy. These were not victimless crimes, many people felt violated when they were burglarized and had things taken.

@7 neighbor, and others who have commented: it seems that some neighbors were aware not only of the local kid but also of his friend, and yet I’m not hearing that anyone spoke to the parents (whom I assume you also know) or to a local cop even if it was just to share concerns such as with Lt. Dan. I don’t mean to sound too critical, but if you guys knew this was coming, and had been happening up here, then why didn’t someone say something sooner? Or were you talking about it and I missed it, which seems to be implied in @1 and @3?

@ #2 Brett@Cyclus: “He had the best head on his shoulders…”

But unfortunately, he had larceny in his heart…

Brett, please, this (alleged) serial thief couldn’t have possibly “had the best head on his shoulders”…by anyone’s standards.
