The new basketball goals at Chimbo Playground are very tall

The new basketball goals at Chimbo playground are a foot too high. Look at the rim in the bottom left compared to top left.

Done fast or done right? We can’t have both.

Apparently it was done intentionally to prevent anyone dunking. This is assuming that the glass was broken because of players dunking, which it wasn’t. Basically players are being scolded for something they didn’t do. Now no one wants to use the goals as it throws off anyone’s shot that is a regular user of regulation BB goals. So it functionally removed the goals and punished the innocent while having the appearance of the opposite. I mean, the regulation goals are still there. It’s not like the hight is unknown.
Anyway that’s my theory and if I’m wrong that’s cool, but it sucks nonetheless.

Thanks for calling attention to this. I agree this was most likely done intentionally (and hope it was otherwise the person installing the hoops have never seen a basket before…it’s at least 11.5 ft high). How can we get this resolved? No one can conceivably play on these baskets, especially little kids. Email our councilwoman? That hasn’t worked for me in the past but open to doing it again

You know the NBA is going to eventually raise their hoops. Chimbo is just ahead of the curve.

Is the new backboard made of something unbreakable as opposed to something glass/plexi/whatever?

@5 If someone enters a SeeClickFix case, I will vote for it. Better yet, call Rec and Parks and tell them about it. 646-3216 is the number I have.

It’s not a conspiracy against dunking. It’s not a lack of tape measure.
This new plastic backboard was not made for this post bracket. The drop-down bracket on the glass backboard seen in the photo doesn’t fit inside the bracket mount on the new boards. I imagine this is really sucks for anyone wanting to play.

Hey folks –

If you’re interested in helping out here, take a couple minutes and send a polite email to our city council rep, Councilwoman Newbille, asking for her to bring this to the city’s attention. As innocuous as this problem seems, this really does affect how the park can be used (especially for young kids trying to shoot hoops).

I was told by someone from Parks & Rec that the height was a miscalculation when it was installed, that they are aware if it, and that it will be fixed.

Well, my faith in humanity is restored.
Glad it was just a miscalculation and not some weird punishment.

The new plastic backboards have been removed. No idea what happened.
