A recent neighborhood-sourced fundraiser brought in $3,000 from 57 donors to help support the Armstrong softball and baseball teams. In addition, one neighborhood business stepped up and helped the softball team get new amazing jerseys.
“We really want to thank the community,” says Armstrong softball Coach Glenn Anderson.
Anderson plans to use part of the funds to get field equipment and help with pre-game snacks for the team. Baseball’s Coach Lawrence Day will be acquiring uniforms and other gear that the team needs for the upcoming season, including hats/visors, socks, bats, balls, gloves, and field equipment.
The boss ladies at Urban Set Bride wanted to do something special, more personal. Reaching out to Coach Day, they were able to connect with K2 Awards and Apparel to provide the softball team with a fresh set of jerseys (complete with a little Beyonce inspiration on the sleeve).
The softball team has won the unofficial Richmond title (vs other city teams) in Coach Anderson’s first four years, going 16-0 against RPS teams over that span. The baseball team is headed up by Lawrence Day, a veteran of inner city baseball and lauded area little league coach.
Long term, the teams still need actual ball fields to call home. If you know of a way to help make this happen, get in touch.
