Who delivers food to Church Hill?

A recent post in the Church Hill Parents group generated an amazing list of restaurants that now deliver to at least part of the area up here:

  • Anthony’s on the Hill
  • Union Market (+groceries, including beer/wine)
  • Alamo BBQ
  • Stroop’s
  • Tarrants
  • Red Eye
  • Spice of India
  • Elephant Thai
  • Peking
  • My Noodle
  • Foo Dog
  • Mojo’s
  • Papa John’s
  • Papa’s Pizza
  • J Kogi
  • Bottoms Up

Eat Street and Grub Hub were also suggested. It looks like Quickness will deliver from anywhere for an extra bump.

Anything missing?

Some of those on the list are iffy. Namely, Anthony’s on the Hill. I love their pizza but the hem and hawed so much about deliveries a few months back that I gave up. Beyond that, many have such a long delivery time that the food is cold before it arrives. Mojo’s and Papa’s are probably the best. No idea why Sette (23rd and Main) and Pizza Tonight don’t deliver given how Anthony’s drops the ball.

It would be great if someone could compile this into a tidy list with phone numbers and descriptions. Been thinking about posting something like that on the message board at my apartment… (okay, I probably need to just make it myself!)

Also, how about groceries or flowers? Chimbo Mart will deliver orders over a certain size, but seems to be more of a service for folks who need help getting their groceries home without a car. Wonder if they would offer phone order/delivery service?

If you like NY style, Papa’s is the best I’ve found since moving back here. Also, I would encourage these restaurants to update their Yelp entries so that we can just filter by delivery and order. That was one of the most disappointing things when I bought up here. I mean, a chinese joint at VCU will deliver but local bottom places don’t? God bless Union Market. Just Saying.

Wow, 11 years ago when we moved to North Church Hill we couldn’t find a single place that would deliver to our home.

Nick P,
I’m not sure about the experience you had with deliveries from Anthony’s on the Hill, but I have worked there for over a year nowand we have no problems with delivery. Our delivery hours are from 5pm-9pm and we deliver throughout Church Hill up to Nine Mile Rd., Rocketts Landing, Fulton Hill, Montrose, Shockoe Bottom, Tobacco Row, and Downtown to 1st St.

While we’re talking about restaurants does anyone know how The Old Mill in the 25th ST theater building is progressing?

Want to second the good service from Anthony’s. Delivery, when we called for it, was always very prompt. Service in the restaurant is excellent. If I didn’t desperately need to drop 100 pounds (some of which were due to Anthony’s great food) I would be eating there regularly.

Be careful with supporting things like GrubHub. They charge local restaurants an arm and a leg and then that money leaves our local community as well and heads to San Francisco.

Call your local restaurant, talk to the friendly voice that picks up the phone!

And I think someone mentioned it but I do know that Quickness RVA delivers for Alamo BBQ, Union Market (including beer/wine!) & Stroops Heroic Dogs and they use bicycles so not only is it super quick but it’s eco friendly and doesn’t contribute to traffic.

I live in Brauers. Not big on delivery, but homegirl is. Davinci’s Anthony’s, and not recommended Sailors deliver. 4 years ago nobody delivered around those parts.

The delivery boundaries seem more socially oriented than distance oriented.
