The news story of the double homicide is still inconclusive. The few witnesses in the area said that the female victim had an argument in the middle of the street with someone earlier in the day Sunday. Perhaps, that argument fueled a rage in someone to commit murder. We as neighbors shouldn’t get in other people’s business, but if you see people going to extremes (loud arguing in the middle of the street) then try to calmly intervene to lower people’s emotions. Just walking and standing nearby may help. Don’t feed into the situation. Get people to back away and put things into perspective.

Another thought I had is this. We can all identify emotional situations with people, but may not want to get involved. If, as a community, we had a list of professional/qualified people that would will be willing to intervene. A list of local Pastors, Social Workers, Counselors that live in the neighborhood that could simply be reached out to when we see a person having a chaotic moment. The person may reject the help at the moment, but at least they know that others do care.
