Dead man on 26th Street

A dead man was found this morning on a recently abandoned couch in a vacant lot on the 1100 block of 26th Street. There does not appear to have been foul play.

Residents on the scene knew of the man from the area, and speculated that heat and alcohol may have played a role in the death.

Would be interested in the deceased’s name if it is available or becomes so.

So unfortunate that the shelters turn out homeless into these extreme heat conditions knowing it can be life threatening. Or not opening their doors as comfort stations. Homeless, especially those not carrying identity, can be difficult to track down a name or family.

I see no name was posted but did notice in the sidebar here that on Instagram, someone said that the sofa is still there! That is the epitome of pure stupidity and laziness on the part of the city’s P&R to not get a truck out there and remove it. I would have thought that Richmond Police should have had made a request? Not that the sofa didn’t have all kinds of germs and bacteria on it before but after a dead body has been on it, come on now. And with kids playing.
