Anybody want to start a Brookland Park community blog?

Of all of the wonderful neighborhoods in Richmond that aren’t lucky enough to be in the East End, I am most fascinated with the Brookland Park corridor. That area has a great mix of history, energy, architecture, community, and opportunity.

Brookland Park Boulevard has a new coffeeshop, a new sandwich shop and deli, and a new monthly newspaper. And while there are Facebook groups sharing out information (Northside & Friends, Friends of Brookland Park Boulevard) and some activity on Nextdoor, I would love to see a thriving community blog covering the Brookland Park area.

If anyone who lives/works along BPB is interested, I’d be glad to help get you up and running. Drop me a line, lets make something happen.

I drive through that neighborhood several times a week, and it’s great! Maybe partner/ reach out to Community High School?

Hey! That’s the theater we drove past on Wednesday. I don’t think I’d like to start a Brookland Park blog (we live in Scott’s Addition) I would like to find out more about that theater. It’s gorgeous! And being a new resident in Richmond, I guarantee you I know very little about the city’s rich cultural history. Except for the tidbits I pick up on CHPN, of course.

So a group of volunteers are now working together to get community blog started for the Brookland Park Boulevard corridor. It will be at http://brooklandpark.net, and should launch sometime this month (sooner rather than later). The Facebook/Twitter/Instagram are all active as we’re ramping up to get this going.

The Brookland Park Post, a community blog for the Brookland Park Boulevard corridor, will start publishing this coming Monday, July 13.

The hyperlocal site will be a news source for the Brookland Park Boulevard corridor, with a focus on on activities and events at the neighborhood level from Battery Park to Highland Park.

Brookland Park Post is being started as a volunteer group effort by area residents Willie Hilliard, Joan Kalyan, and Tara Franzetti. The site is built on the framework of John Murden’s successful Church Hill People’s News community blog.

Home to historic and walkable neighborhoods and with one of the city’s most complete urban commercial corridors, the Brookland Park Boulevard area has a rich history and a bright future. We look forward to sharing the stories.
