From Mandy Troy Anderson:
Hi All! My husband and I found a stray hunting dog this weekend about an hour out of town at our river house.
He had bedded down in some bushes at the river bank and looked to be in rough shape. He had a collar, but no tags or information. We asked the hunters that use the property, but no one recognized him and no one claimed to be missing a dog.
We called animal control and alerted them, but apparently it’s really not a big deal for a lost hunting dog in rural areas as so many get dumped there.
Since no one lives at the house full time, we brought him home. I took him to the Church Hill Vet today and had him scanned for a microchip, but there isn’t one.
He is estimated to be about 3 years old and is neutered. We got ALL of his vaccinations (rabies, distemper, Lyme) today and dewormer. We checked his ears for mites and did a heart worm test. Negative for both. He got flea and tick medicine and a dose of Heartguard. He is completely set!
He looks to be in overall good health, just needs some TLC from being out in the elements and is already recovering nicely.
We would love to find this guy a home. He is very sweet, good with other dogs (we went to the dog park today and he gets along with our two Huskies), he walks great off leash (which is a HUGE bonus since my dogs do not) and has made no messes inside the house since we’ve taken him in.
He will cuddle if you want or he can hang out on his own. He is very mellow. He is definitely an ideal dog and I would love to keep him if we didn’t already have a full house.
We don’t have cats, so I am not sure how he would be with them but he seems super chill.
If anyone is interested, please give reply or shoot me an email at ajtroy@gmail.com. If you need my phone number, I’ll be happy to give it in a private message or email. Thank you!!!

I grew up in a rural area, it’s common for hunters this time of year to nearly starve their dogs so they will hunt better because they’re hungry. Most are kept in pins outside and stay cold and hungry. It’s very sad and unfortunately very common in the country. You truly rescued this dog.

So is he adopted then?! I’m in love with him with no way to have him — story of my life. Anyway, I hope he finds a really good place. Big thank you to his rescuers for taking him on.
Hi Everyone! Great news! We were able to find a fantastic home for this sweet guy! Thank you all for your support. You will probably be seeing him throughout the neighborhood as it seems he’s a full time Church Hill resident now 🙂
That is SO great! THANKS for posting!

He looks like a fantastic dog. If I didn’t have two cats (one very old and cranky), I would have taken him in a heartbeat. So glad he found a home! I’ll look for him around the ‘hood.
