Laura Kebede has a great profile of Tra’Shaundra Mealy, the 2014 Boys & Girls Club State Youth of the Year:
Lately, giving back to her mother has meant paying rent and buying some groceries when she falls short. Mealy holds down a part-time job while maintaining her grades and other volunteer involvements, including Blue Sky Fund, Special Olympics Virginia, Key Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond & Tri-Cities.
Wiles said Mealy “dives in and does it all,” yet “still manages to find time to be everyone’s big sister at the club.”
Mealy hopes to major in child psychology at one of the seven colleges that have accepted her from Hampton University to Benedict College in South Carolina.
