These double houses from this era do not have firewalls between them and makes the situation worse. Just like the one down the street from me in March 2012. They were at a point, at least one side, to demolish it especially since the owner that started it had no insurance. At that time 14 rescue vehicles showed up and over 70 firefighters and EMT staff was on the scene. When it becomes a 2-alarm fire then it has flared back up. The number of vehicles is because of the age of these houses and being very old dry wood as well as sitting within a couple of feet from neighboring houses that can easily catch fire (jump or embers). The picture above doesn’t show obvious results of a 2-alarm yet.

This stinks. Hope these guys have someplace to live tonight. Sorry we as neighbors are too preoccupied with T.V. commercials to notice that your house just burned up.

That is why I am a certified CERT member and also trained and certified in CPR-AED and can jump in in case of an emergency in my neighborhood. But true, people are so plugged in these days that if they become untethered they tend to freak as they hibernate and turn into Morlocks unaware of what is happening outside their own front door.

Fortunately this particular unit does have a firewall and our home only sustained a little bit of smoke damage and of course the broken front door. Big thanks to Jessie for saving my dogs and my neighbors. The residents of the house that had the most damage has a place to stay tonight and seem to be doing well despite the misfortune.

Bad circumstances to meet neighbors, but I’m just grateful that everyone got out safely!
