I heard it while sitting on my porch in Fulton. Don’t think it was thunder; it didn’t really rumble. It was more of a short explosive sound. Might have been a transformer exploding. Anybody lose power? I heard on get hit by lightning one time, and it sounded similar.
@#11. Mortar round or IED sounds plausible. Maybe wierdos blowing stuff up? Any signs of explosion anywhere? I’m going to ride my bike down there today and look around.
I was on Fulton Hill and it was so loud and close, I thought something had exploded right outside the window. Cat jumped all the way across the room. This was two hours before the storm — definitely not thunder. The cops down on Dock St. @ 21st said a lot of people had asked them about it.

Yes and no.
I guessed lightning.
Yup, heard it here in Chimbo. Not the slightest idea what it was.
Um, thunder?
I heard it! Out walking my dog near Clay and 31st Street. No clue what it was though.
Thunder?
I was running on Government Road near Gilles Creek and heard the boom. Seemed like it came from the direction of the park…
I heard it. Cat did too.
Lightning was wicked last night. Had a bolt outside my window last night. I thought something exploded.
Yes – what was that??

I was at gillies. It was like a giant mortar round.
More #RVA residents hear a loud “BOOM” last night. Oh wait, lightning makes “BOOM” sounds right? Nevermind- http://t.co/oYyfWKc1Se

I heard it too – I’m by Chimborazo park as well. Thought someone was on the roof or something.

I was at the dog park it sounded like it might have come from the train tracks? I’m no engineer but it didn’t sound good.
