Richmond Magazine’s Best New Restaurants of 2012 gives props to 13 new places in the Richmond area, including our own Anthony’s on the Hill:
Neighborhood Italian: Anthony’s on the Hill
2824 E. Broad St., 344-3374Who hasn’t wanted to live someplace like New York City and be within walking distance of a small, family-owned Italian restaurant? A friendly place with red-checked tablecloths where you can pick up a pizza to take home or stop in with the family for a plate of pasta or some great eggplant Parmesan. Those who live in Church Hill (or who don’t mind hopping in the car) now have that place. Anthony’s on the Hill has that feel and the food to back it up. From excellent pizza pies, with the dough and sauce made daily, to a truly authentic Tuscan Bolognese over pasta, Anthony’s has all the elements of a neighborhood Italian hot spot. Well, except for the red-checked tablecloths, but that’s OK, it’s still all good. —PEJ

We’ve been a few times and the food was very good. Wish the place was busier the times we have gone. Worried about this one.

@Brett F–I live across the street from Anthony’s and I can tell you they do a lot of takeout business as well as being pretty packed on Friday and Saturday nights.
That Sunday night special — $6 takeout pizza — keeps me coming back. Delicious. This is well deserved.
I was worried about them too. Every time I’m in there it seemed slow….then they stopped serving lunch. Its fantastic and we love it but I hope locals are giving it their support and spreading the word. My family can’t eat pizza every night.
Melissa, they stopped serving lunch? That explains why they didn’t answer the phone when I called one day last week, thanks for explaining. I thought they did lunch and was real disappointed that they didn’t answer the phone and no voice mail picked up explaining their hours.
