Nominations are now being accepted for the Better Housing Coalition’s Golden Hammer Awards to honor professionals whose work enhances the Richmond region through revitalization, blight reduction and historic preservation.
BHC is seeking nominations in six categories:
Best Single-Family Residential Renovation
Best Commercial Renovation – Neighborhood Scale (less than 5,000 sq. ft.)
Best Commercial Renovation – Large Scale (more than 10,000 sq. ft.)
Best New Infill Project
Best Neighborhood Design Project
Green Hammer for Sustainable DesignThe awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Hotel John Marshall at 502. E. Franklin Street. The nomination form is available at www.betterhousingcoalition.org/goldenhammer. Submissions are due October 5, 2012.
“The Richmond community places a premium on projects that enhance neighborhoods and preserve our historic urban landscape,” said David Herring, vice president of BHC’s Center for Neighborhood Revitalization and founder of the awards. “These juried awards honor people who weave those values into their work.”
Following the ceremony, honorees and guests will celebrate on the red carpet at BHC’s signature event, Groundbreakers. When are the Tin Hammer Award nominations coming?
I wanted to put Johannas’s abomination on Broad up for “Worst Neighbor Infill Award.”
I’d also like to make sure Bilder’s long awaited theater rehab gets in there as well for “Most Dreaded Commercial Renovation.” I’m not sure if it goes in the “over 5000 sq ft” designation though unless someone can confirm what’s still left standing.
Looks like Bilder is now on the CAR. From Richmond Bizsense:
“Bilder, who owns Bilder and Terranova Development, said he was happy to be appointed to the committee and that he had always been interested in the group’s work.
“The committee is tasked with preserving the history of Richmond, and that’s important to me,” Bilder said. “I’m going to take this job very seriously.”
Bilder has done work in Carver and Shockoe Bottom and is working on the renovation of the East End Theater in Church Hill.”
“Working” on renovating the theater? That’s called “working”???
