I think it’s important to note that my neighbors and I have been working with the City for two years to get these buildings actively repaired or torn down. The last straw came for my neighbors (at 610) and the City when a peice of 608 fell on thier house and damaged their siding. These homes were in serious disrepair. The roof of 608 had fallen in and was home to several feral cats, possums and racoons. I would have loved to have seen these homes repaired, but I think they were neglected beyond repair.
606 was for sale this past summer, however I don’t think the property ever transferred.
Photos of the demolition are located here: http://www.612.richmondcitywatch.com/modules/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=972
A lot of those owners are deceased and the families don’t know or don’t care about old houses. They would rather have them demolished than do anything.
